Telida, AK 1949 & Deering and Kotzebue, AK 1950
The title of this footage is incorrect. It was not shot by tourists, rather was by Charlene Craft, an archeologist who excavated at Telida, AK in 1949. Several of the Athabascan villagers are in the film doing traditional activities including building a fish weir, fish trap and snowshoes. At 23'14" the film switches to 1950 and an archeological excavation at Deering, AK with the noted Danish archeologist, Helge Larsen and his son among others. July 4th, 1950 at Kotzebue starts with the shot of the American flag. Kotzebue residents in colorful parkas are seen dancing on the beach.Credit should be given to Charlene Craft LaFebre for all of this film.
