In previous reports (arXiv:0901.2487, arXiv:1007.0745), we introduced a new fermionic variational wavefunction, suitable for interacting multi-species systems and sustaining superfluidity. This disentangled wavefunction contains a new quantum index. Here we introduce a general spin triplet version of this wavefunction.

We give a presentation of the centralizer algebras for tensor products of spinor representations of quantum groups via generators and relations. In the even-dimensional case, this can be described in terms of non-standard q-deformations of orthogonal Lie algebras; in the odd-dimensional case only a certain subalgebra will appear. In the classical case q = 1 the relations boil down to Lie algebra relations.

We derive big-bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) constraints on both unstable and stable gravitino taking account of recent progresses in theoretical study of the BBN processes as well as observations of primordial light-element abundances. In the case of unstable gravitino, we set the upper limit on the reheating temperature assuming that the primordial gravitinos are mainly produced by the scattering processes of thermal particles. For stable gravitino, we consider Bino, stau and sneutrino as the...

Like a silver thread, quantum entanglement [1] runs through the foundations and breakthrough applications of quantum information theory. It cannot arise from local operations and classical communication (LOCC) and therefore represents a more intimate relationship among physical systems than we may encounter in the classical world. The `nonlocal' character of entanglement manifests itself through a number of counterintuitive phenomena encompassing Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox [2,3], steering...

River basins as diverse as the Nile, the Amazon, and the Mississippi satisfy certain topological invariants known as Horton's laws. Do these macroscopic (up to 10^3 km) laws extend to the micron scale? Through realistic simulations, we analyze the morphology and statistical properties of networks of vortex flow in flux-gradient-driven superconductors. We derive a phase diagram of the different network morphologies, including one in which Horton's laws of length and stream number are obeyed --...

Length-$q$ substrings, or $q$-grams, can represent important characteristics of text data, and determining the frequencies of all $q$-grams contained in the data is an important problem with many applications in the field of data mining and machine learning. In this paper, we consider the problem of calculating the {\em non-overlapping frequencies} of all $q$-grams in a text given in compressed form, namely, as a straight line program (SLP). We show that the problem can be solved in $O(q^2n)$...

We prove density estimates for level sets of minimizers of the energy $$\eps^{2s}\|u\|_{H^s(\Omega)}^2+\int_\Omega W(u)\,dx,$$ with $s \in (0,1)$, where $\|u\|_{H^s(\Omega)}$ denotes the total contribution from $\Omega$ in the $H^s$ norm of $u$, and $W$ is a double-well potential. As a consequence we obtain, as $\eps \to 0$, the uniform convergence of the level sets of $u$ to either a $H^s$-nonlocal minimal surface if $s\in(0,\frac 1 2)$, or to a classical minimal surface if $s \in[\frac 1...

Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) play a key role in measuring cosmological parameters, in which the Phillips relation is adopted. However, the origin of the relation is still unclear. Several parameters are suggested, e.g. the relative content of carbon to oxygen (C/O) and the central density of the white dwarf (WD) at ignition. These parameters are mainly determined by the WD's initial mass and its cooling time, respectively. Using the progenitor model developed by Meng and Yang, we present the...

More than 400 $K^{+}\to\pi^{+}\mu^+\mu^-$ events were observed in a rare $K^+$ decay experiment at the AGS. Normalized to the $K^{+}\to\pi^{+}\pi^+\pi^-$ decay, the branching ratio is determined to be $(9.22 \pm 0.60 (stat) \pm 0.49 (syst))\times 10^{-8}$. This branching ratio and the $\mu\mu$ mass spectrum is in very good agreement with the measurement of the $K^{+}\to\pi^{+}e^+e^-$ decay, but deviates significantly from the previous measurement.

We investigated top quark effects on virtual photon structure functions by pQCD. We include the top quark mass effects on the virtual photon structure function with the quark parton model and with the operator product expansion up to the next-to-leading order in QCD. We also consider the threshold effect on the running coupling constant in the calculation to the effective photon structure function with a matching condition. The numerical calculations are investigated in the kinematical region...

An overview of the sources for heavy elements in the early Galaxy is given. It is shown that observations of abundances in metal-poor stars can be used along with a basic understanding of stellar models to guide the search for the source of the heavy r-process nuclei (r-nuclei). Observations show that this source produces very little of the elements from C through Zn including Fe. This strongly suggests that O-Ne-Mg core-collapse supernovae (SNe) from progenitors of ~8-11M_sun are the source...

The search for the Higgs boson is entering a decisive phase. The Large Hadron Collider experiments have collected more than 1 fb$^{-1}$ of data and are now capable of efficiently probing the high Higgs mass region, $m_H > 140$ GeV. The low mass region is more challenging at the LHC, but if the Higgs has Standard Model (SM)-like properties, the LHC should find evidence for it by the end of next year. In low energy supersymmetric extensions of the SM, the situation is similar for large values...

We have measured the effect of dipole-dipole interactions on the frequency of a collective mode of a Bose-Einstein condensate. At relatively large numbers of atoms, the experimental measurements are in good agreement with zero temperature theoretical predictions based on the Thomas Fermi approach. Experimental results obtained for the dipolar shift of a collective mode show a larger dependency to both the trap geometry and the atom number than the ones obtained when measuring the modification...

I start by defining the cosmological parameters $H_0, \Omega_m$ and $\Omega_\Lambda$. Then I show how the age of the universe depends on them, followed by the evolution of the scale parameter of the universe for various values of the density parameters. Then I define strategies for measuring them, and show the results for the recent determination of these parameters from measurements on supernovas of type 1a. Implications for particle physics is briefly discussed at the end.

We study the non-Markovian entanglement dynamics of two qubits in a common squeezed bath. We see remarkable difference between the non-Markovian entanglement dynamics with its Markovian counterpart. We show that a non-Markovian decoherence free state is also decoherence free in the Markovian regime, but all the Markovian decoherence free states are not necessarily decoherence free in the non-Markovian domain. We extend our calculation from squeezed vacuum bath to squeezed thermal bath, where we...

A recent model of dark energy and dark matter was proposed, involving a new gauge group $SU(2)_Z$ whose coupling grows strong at a scale $\Lambda_Z \sim 10^{-3} eV$, a result which is obtained from a simple assumption that its initial value at some high energy scale $M \sim 10^{16} GeV$ is of the order of a typical Standard Model (SM) coupling at a similar scale. (This assumption comes naturally from an embedding of $SU(2)_Z$ and the SM into a grand unified group $E_6$.) It is found that the...

The Modulated Wideband Converter (MWC) is a recently proposed analog-to-digital converter (ADC) based on Compressive Sensing (CS) theory. Unlike conventional ADCs, its quantization reference voltage, which is important to the system performance, does not equal the maximum amplitude of original analog signal. In this paper, the quantization reference voltage of the MWC is theoretically analyzed and the conclusion demonstrates that the reference voltage is proportional to the square root of $q$,...

We demonstrate a simple and robust technique for removal of the carrier wave from a phase-modulated laser beam, using a non-interferometric method that is insensitive to the modulation frequency and instead exploits the polarization-dependence of electro-optic modulation. An actively stabilized system using feedback via a liquid crystal cell yields long-term carrier suppression in excess of 28 dB at the expense of a 6.5 dB reduction in sideband power.

Chaotic internal degrees of freedom of a molecule can act as noise and affect the diffusion of the molecule on a substrate. A separation of time scales between the fast internal dynamics and the slow motion of the centre of mass on the substrate makes it possible to directly link chaos to diffusion. We discuss the conditions under which this is possible, and show that in simple atomistic models with pair-wise harmonic potentials, strong chaos can arise through the geometry. Using...

We demonstrate that the collinear expansion fails in the case of gluon emission from a fast quark produced in $eA$ DIS. In this approximation the N=1 rescattering contribution to the gluon spectrum vanishes. We show that the higher-twist approach by Guo, Wang and Zhang [4,5] based on the collinear expansion is wrong. The nonzero gluon spectrum obtained in [4,5] is a consequence of unjustified neglecting some important terms in the collinear expansion.

Supernovae of Type II is a phenomenon that occurs at the end of evolution of massive stars when the iron core of the star exceeds a mass limit. After collapse of the core under gravity the shock wave alone does not succeed in expelling the mass of the star and in this sense the role of neutrinos is the most important mechanism to do so. During the emission of neutrinos flavor conversion is possible, related the phenomenon of oscillations, which however depends directly on the particular density...

It follows that neither the category S nor its dual satisfy Brown representability. Our example involves an abelian category whose derived category does not have small Hom-sets.

Low frequency electrical noise measurements have been used to probe the electronic state of the perovskite-type manganese oxide Pr2/3Ca1/3MnO3 versus temperature and in the vicinity of the field-induced transition from the insulating, charge-ordered state (I-CO) to the metallic, ferromagnetic state (M-F). At high temperature we have observed a high level of the excess noise with mainly a gaussian distribution of the resistance fluctuations, and the associated power spectral density has a...

The Chern-Simons modification to general relativity in four dimensions consists of adding to the Einstein-Hilbert term a scalar field that couples to the first class Pontryagin density. In this theory, which has attracted considerable attention recently, the Schwarzschild metric persists as an exact solution, and this is why this model resists several observational constraints. In contrast, the spinning black hole solution of the theory is not given by the Kerr metric but by a modification of...

Separation is a classical problem asking whether, given two sets belonging to some class, it is possible to separate them by a set from a smaller class. We discuss the separation problem for regular languages. We give a Ptime algorithm to check whether two given regular languages are separable by a piecewise testable language, that is, whether a $B{\Sigma}1(

The paper studies the problem of recovering a spectrally sparse object from a small number of time domain samples. Specifically, the object of interest with ambient dimension $n$ is assumed to be a mixture of $r$ complex multi-dimensional sinusoids, while the underlying frequencies can assume any value in the unit disk. Conventional compressed sensing paradigms suffer from the {\em basis mismatch} issue when imposing a discrete dictionary on the Fourier representation. To address this problem,...

This paper gives a brief overview of the present and expected future limits on physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) from neutron beta decay, which is described by two parameters only within the SM. Since more than two observables are accessible, the problem is over-determined. Thus, precise measurements of correlations in neutron decay can be used to study the SM as well to search for evidence of possible extensions to it. Of particular interest in this context are the search for right-handed...

Gravity can arise in a conventional non-Abelian gauge theory in which a specific phenomenon takes place. Suppose there is a condensation of polarized instantons and antiinstantons in the vacuum state. Then the excitations of the gauge field in the classical approximation are described through the variables of Riemann geometry satisfying the Einstein equations of general relativity. There are no dimensional coupling constants in the theory.

The melting of the magnetic vortex lattice has been observed in high-Tc superconductors in many experiments by different groups and is regarded as confirmed. To date, only one group claims to have observed the vortex-lattice melting in the low-Tc superconductor Nb3Sn in specific-heat measurements. We measured the same Nb3Sn single crystal with a differential-thermal analysis method. We report on the absence of any sign of vortex-lattice melting in our data and discuss the possible reasons for...

Since spin and charge are both carried by electrons (or holes) in a solid, it is natural to assume that charge and spin diffusion coefficients will be the same. Drift-diffusion models of spin transport typically assume so. Here, we show analytically that the two diffusion coefficients can be vastly different in quantum wires. Although we do not consider quantum wells or bulk systems, it is likely that the two coefficients will be different in those systems as well. Thus, it is important to...

We investigate through numerical simulations the effect of selection on two summary statistics for nucleotide variation in a sample of two genes from a population of N asexually reproducing haploid individuals. One is the mean time since two individuals had their most recent common ancestor ($\bar{T_s}$), and the other is the mean number of nucleotide differences between two genes in the sample ($\bar{d_s}$). In the case of diminishing epistasis, in which the deleterious effect of a new...

We report a first-principles study of static transport of localized waves in quasi-one-dimensional open media. We found that such transport, dominated by disorder-induced resonant transmissions, displays novel diffusive behavior. Our analytical predictions are entirely confirmed by numerical simulations. We showed that the prevailing self-consistent localization theory [van Tiggelen, {\it et. al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{84}, 4333 (2000)] is valid only if disorder-induced resonant...

In this paper we formulate and prove a combinatorial version of the section conjecture for finite groups acting on finite graphs. We apply this result to the study of rational points and show that finite descent is the only obstruction to the Hasse principle for mildly singular curves whose components are all geometrically rational.
