General consequences of mass mixing between the ordinary Z boson and a relatively light Z_d boson, the "dark" Z, arising from a U(1)_d gauge symmetry, associated with a hidden sector such as dark matter, are examined. New effects beyond kinetic mixing are emphasized. Z-Z_d mixing introduces a new source of low energy parity violation well explored by possible future atomic parity violation and planned polarized electron scattering experiments. Rare K (B) meson decays into pi (K) l^+...

BD +30 3639 is a member of a group of uncommon planetary nebula with Wolf-Rayet central star and higher expansion velocities in [O III] than in [N II] lines. Images and high-resolution spectra from the literature are used in order to construct a 3-D model of the nebula using the morpho-kinematic code SHAPE. We find that two homologous expansion laws are needed for the [N II] and [O III] shell. We conclude that the internal velocity field of BD +30 3639 decreases with the distance from the...

A growing number of low luminosity and low surface brightness astronomical objects challenge traditional notions of both galaxies and star clusters. To address this, we propose a definition of galaxy independent of the cold dark matter model of the universe: A galaxy is a gravitationally bound set of stars whose properties cannot be explained by a combination of baryons and Newton's laws of gravity. After exploring observational diagnostics of this definition, we examine the classification of...

Using information from the marginality conditions of vertex operators for the AdS_5 x S^5 superstring, we determine the structure of the dependence of the energy of quantum string states on their conserved charges and the string tension proportional to lambda^(1/2). We consider states on the leading Regge trajectory in the flat space limit which carry one or two (equal) spins in AdS_5 or S^5 and an orbital momentum in S^5, with Konishi multiplet states being particular cases. We argue that the...

In this work, we study six tree-dominated $B \to a_1(1260) a_1(1260)$ and $b_1(1235) b_1(1235)$ decays in the perturbative QCD(pQCD) approach, where $a_1$($b_1$) is a $^3P_1$($^1P_1$) axial-vector meson. Based on the perturbative calculations and phenomenological analysis, we find that: (a) the CP-averaged branching ratio of $B^0 \to a_1^+ a_1^-$ decay in the pQCD approach is $54.7 \times 10^{-6}$, which agrees well with the current data and the predictions given in the QCD factorization...

We obtain an analogue of Coburn's description of the Toeplitz algebra in the setting of truncated Toeplitz operators. As a byproduct, we provide several examples of complex symmetric operators which are not unitarily equivalent to truncated Toeplitz operators having continuous symbols.

In this paper we give a formula for the $K$-theory of a labelled graph algebra when the labelled graph in question is left-resolving. We also establish strong connections between the various classes of $C^*$-algebras which are associated with shift spaces and labelled graph algebras. Hence by computing the $K$-theory of a labelled graph algebra we are providing a common framework for computing the $K$-theory of graph algebras, ultragraph algebras, Exel-Laca algebras, Matsumoto algebras and the...

The strong decays of $D^\star_{s1}(2700)^\pm$ and $D^\star_{sJ}(2860)^\pm$ are investigated within the $^3P_0$ model. It is found that the interpretation of these two states depends on the mixing schemes and the ways of choices of the harmonic oscillator parameter $\beta$. If $D^\star_{s1}(2700)^\pm$ and $D^\star_{sJ}(2860)^\pm$ are two pure states, $D^\star_{s1}(2700)^\pm$ seems impossibly the $2^3S_1$ $D_s$, but may be the $1^3D_1$ $D_s$. $D^\star_{sJ}(2860)^\pm$ may be the $1^3D_3$. The dynamical $p$-forms of torus reductions of maximal supergravity theory have been shown some time ago to possess remarkable algebraic structures. The set ("dynamical spectrum") of propagating $p$-forms has been described as a (truncation of a) real Borcherds superalgebra $\mf{V}_D$ that is characterized concisely by a Cartan matrix which has been constructed explicitly for each spacetime dimension $11 \geq D \geq 3.$ In the equations of motion, each differential form of degree $p$...

Let $p$ be a prime number. We define the notion of $F$-finiteness of homomorphisms of $\mathbb F_p$-algebras, and discuss some basic properties. In particular, we prove a sort of descent theorem on $F$-finiteness of homomorphisms of $\mathbb F_p$-algebras. As a corollary, we prove the following. Let $g:B\to C$ be a homomorphism of Noetherian $\mathbb F_p$-algebras. If $g$ is faithfully flat reduced, and $C$ is $F$-finite, then $B$ is $F$-finite. This is a generalization of Seydi's result on...

Recent studies of the interaction of vector mesons with nuclei make possible and opportune the study of the interaction of the $J/\psi$ with nuclei and the investigation of the origin of the $J/\psi$ suppression in its propagation thorough a nuclear medium. We observe that the transition of $J/\psi N$ to $VN$ with $V$ being a light vector, $\rho, \omega,\phi$, together with the inelastic channels, $J/\psi N \to \bar D \Lambda_c$ and $J/\psi N \to \bar D \Sigma_c$ leads to a particular shape of...

In this paper we study a generalized Cahn-Hilliard equation which was proposed by Gurtin. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a local-in-time solution for a quasilinear version, that is, if the coefficients depend on the solution and its gradient. Moreover we show that local solutions to the corresponding semilinear problem exist globally as long as the physical potential satisfies certain growth conditions. Finally we study the long-time behaviour of the solutions and show that each...

We consider the problem of parameter estimation for a system of ordinary differential equations from noisy observations on a solution of the system. In case the system is nonlinear, as it typically is in practical applications, an analytic solution to it usually does not exist. Consequently, straightforward estimation methods like the ordinary least squares method depend on repetitive use of numerical integration in order to determine the solution of the system for each of the parameter values...

The $dd\to ^3He n$ reaction is considered at the energies between 200 MeV and 520 MeV. The Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas equations are iterated up to the lowest order terms over the nucleon-nucleon t-matrix. The parameterized ${^3He}$ wave function including five components is used. The angular dependence of the differential cross section and energy dependence of tensor analyzing power $T_{20}$ at the zero scattering angle are presented in comparison with the experimental data.

Vector mesons may be photoproduced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions when a virtual photon emitted by one nucleus scatters from the other nucleus, emerging as a vector meson. The STAR Collaboration has previously presented measurements of coherent $\rho^0$ photoproduction at center of mass energies of 130 GeV and 200 GeV in AuAu collisions. Here, we present a measurement of the cross section at 62.4 GeV; we find that the cross section for coherent $\rho^0$ photoproduction with nuclear...

Highlights are an implicit function theorem removing the perturbation conditions of Nash-Moser type, best possible existence results when the singularity of the linearised P.D.E. is at worst bi-dimensional, and various, again optimal, corollaries on existence of centre manifolds and conjugation to normal form of...

Continuous logic extends the multi-valued Lukasiewicz logic by adding a halving operator on propositions. This extension is designed to give a more satisfactory model theory for continuous structures. The semantics of these logics can be given using specialisations of algebraic structures known as hoops. As part of an investigation into the metatheory of propositional continuous logic, we were indebted to Prover9 for finding a proof of an important algebraic law.

Rayleigh's theorem asserts that the probability for such a walk to end at a distance less than 1 from its starting point is $1/(n+1)$. We give an elementary proof of this result. We also prove the following generalization valid for any probability distribution $\mu$ on the positive real numbers: if two walkers start at the same point and make respectively $m$ and $n$...

Recently, a new approach in the fine analysis of stochastic processes sample paths has been developed to predict the evolution of the local regularity under (pseudo-)differential operators. In this paper, we study the sample paths of continuous martingales and stochastic integrals. We proved that the almost sure 2-microlocal frontier of a martingale can be obtained through the local regularity of its quadratic variation. It allows to link the H\"older regularity of a stochastic integral to...

The fake monster Lie algebra is determined by the Borcherds function Phi_{12} which is the reflective modular form of the minimal possible weight with respect to O(II_{2,26}). We prove that the first non-zero Fourier-Jacobi coefficient of Phi_{12} in any of 23 Niemeier cusps is equal to the Weyl-Kac denominator function of the affine Lie algebra of the root system of the corresponding Niemeier lattice. This is an automorphic answer (in the case of the fake monster Lie algebra) on the old...

We present two dimensional Monte-Carlo radiative transfer models for the disk of the eclipsing binary $\epsilon$ Aur by fitting its spectral energy distribution from optical to the far-IR wavelengths. We also report new observations of $\epsilon$ Aur made by AKARI in its five mid and far-IR photometric bands and were used to construct our SED. The disk is optically thick and has flared disk geometry containing gas and dust with a gas to dust mass ratio of 100. We have taken the primary of the...

When a thin sheet is crushed into a small three-dimensional volume, it invariably forms a structure with a low volume fraction but high resistance to further compression. Being a far-from-equilibrium process, forced crumpling is not necessarily amenable to a statistical description in which the parameters of the initially flat sheet and the final confinement fully specify the resulting crumpled state. Instead, the internal geometry and mechanical properties of the crumpled ball may reflect the...
