Each condensation is only about four pages long, and there's an extra page for each one, detailing the author's biography. Authors include Dickens, Tolstoy, H.G. Despite the title, 342 of the 350 pages are devoted to the sinking of the Titanic. Published in 1912, the same years as the loss of the ship, this extensive volume gives tremendous insight into many aspects of the disaster, from the profiles of those on board, to the trip itself, to the panic and stoicness of the sinking itself, this work is most valuable because it was written directly afterwards, while details of both the people and the ship were still fresh in witness's minds. Also discusses the political, economic, and social factors that led to the Louisiana Purchase. Printed in 1923, this guide is a wonderful companion to a visit, but can also be studied on its own. English text is by L. D. Luard. Includes a map of the facility, sample images from many galleries, and descriptions and importance of many works. Of course, not all can be covered, but reading this guide will give you a much more detailed overview of art history than most people have.
