COON RAPIDS, Minn. -- Dozens of local seniors observed an AED demonstration at the 15th annual Senior Safety Camp on Wednesday.
They also watched a demonstration with the police department's new K-9, Billy. Along with the Coon Rapids Police, Todd Williams from the fire department talked about fire safety at home. Meteorologist Mike Lynch from WCCO Radio was the keynote speaker. He addressed severe weather safety.
"When it comes to severe weather detection we've got, it's a two prong approach. We've got the Doppler radar, we've got technology, but we also have the eyes in the field," says Lynch. "And as good as Doppler radar is, guess what I like the most? Eyes in the field, especially trained eyes in the filed that know what's going on."
There was also an expo of products and services for seniors.
Thanks to community donations, the Senior Safety Camp costs just six dollars and includes lunch, refreshments and door prizes.
