in times square and we have a lot of fun for them just ahead. >> can't wait to hear from them. michael, you have a big announcement. >> i do, george. this is something that i thought i'd never do but it's happening. you're g out wisn our nextho. it's worth the wait. >> it certainly is. that is coming up. we have major news from the white house this morning. with gas prices soaring as americans are facing a big travel week, president biden is taking action to help bring those gas prices down. but first we are going to begin with new details in that christmas parade tragedy in wisconsin. we are learning more about the victims and the suspect who will make his first court appearance later today. alex perez is there live on the scene for us with the latest. good morning, alex. >> reporter: hey, good morning, robin. yeah, we're learning more about the suspect but also learning a lot more about the many people who bravely stepped forward to help as this nightmare unfolded. this morning, authorities have identified the man they say is responsible for killing five people during a christmas parade. >> get out the way. >> a maroon ford escape just blew by.

>> reporter: police say darrell brooks plowed this maroon suv through a crowd of parade participants injuring more than 40 people, including 18 children, 6 still in critical condition. brooks now charged with five counts of first degree intentional homicide. overnight a vigil in waukesha for the victims, side by side, community members coming together to grieve. three of the women killed were members of the dancing grannies, ranging in age from 52 to 81. the youngest, tamara durand was dancing with the group for the first time. her husband remembering her as a vibrant, loving and warm woman who we all miss deeply already. the dancing grannies put out this statement, our group was doing what they loved, performing in front of crowds in a parade putting smiles on faces of all ages filling them with joy and happiness. >> our community has faced

horror and tragedy in what should have been a community celebration. >> reporter: police say this isn't the first time brooks is accused of using a car as a weapon. earlier this month he was arrested for allegedly using that same suv to run overthe mother of his child after allegedly striking her with a closed fist. brooks was charged in that incident but released when he posted bail, $1,000. the mayhem caught on camera showing the instant the holiday cheer turned to chaos. this video showing the suv swerving ahead of a marching band before speeding up. here you can see people scrambling to move out of its path. >> that was the worst thing i've ever seen in mlife >>eporter: d sneidman's reco sh refuge. >> there were parents who were pushing their children underneath my record racks to keep them safe. i literally saw roughly ten people bounce off that car and

you could hear thud, thud, thud, thud, thud as he drove through that. and you could hear it, which is a sound i'll never forget. >> reporter: ryan kohnke's niece was with her dance group that was part of the parade when the suv struck her. >> jessalyn is still fighting for her life. she took direct impact from the car. i feel like she's going to fight no matter what and right now we're just looking towards the positive. >> reporter: you can hear the trauma in the voices of the people who experienced all this. brooks is said to make an initial appearance in court last this afternoon. michael? >> an unnecessary tragedy there. alex, thank you so much. now going to turn to jury deliberations expected to begin in the trial of the three men accused of killing ahmaud arbery. steve osunsami is live outside the courthouse in brunswick, georgia, with more on the closing arguments. good morning, steve. >> reporter: good morning to you, michael. this morning at the courthouse today the prosecutor is continuing her closing arguments expecting to go the full two

hours, she is allowed and then the jury could get this case. a great deal has been said about the jury, that all but 1 of thea debating whether the three men accused of murder in this racially explosive case will ever walk free again. >> they made their decision to attack ahmaud arbery in their driveways because he was a black man running down the street. >> reporter: the defendants travis mcmichael, his father gregory mcmichael and william "roddie" bryan are all accused of being the aggressors on this sunny day in february of last year. they pleaded not guilty. >> three-on-one, two pickup trucks, two guns. mr. arbery, nothing in his pockets, not a cell phone, not a gun, not even an i.d. they want you to believe that he is the danger to them. >> reporter: 25-year-old ahmaud arbery is seen in this disturbing cell phone video taking his last breaths.

lawyers for the three men told jurors the killing was self-defense because they say he tried to overpower their client and take his gun. >> you are allowed to defend yourself. you are allowed to use force that is likely to cause death or serious bodily injury if you believe it's necessary. at that moment travis believed it was necessary. >> reporter: the three men are hoping jurors believe that they were trying to make a citizen's arrest under then georgia law. even though police report that arbery is never seen stealing anything at this neighborhood construction site. never living up to the suspicions of the three men. >> turning ahmaud arbery into a victim after the choices that he made does not reflect the reality of what brought ahmaud arbery to satilla shores in his

khaki shorts with no socks to cover his long, dirty toenails. >> reporter: we met arbery's father who told us he believes his family will see justice. >> the evidence is overwhelming and no way we can't get justice. >> reporter: this has been difficult for all of the families to sit in court and hear, especially for the family of ahmaud arbery. wanda cooper, his mother, had to listen yesterday as one of the defense lawyers made unfortunate comments about her son's appearance. it was all too much and she had to leave the courtroom. george? >> what a trial. okay, steve, thanks. to the white house where the president is making major economic moves deciding to tap the strategic petroleum reserve to bring down gas prices and affirming the leadership at the federal reserve. cecilia vega has the latest. good morning, cecilia. >> reporter: george, good morning. president biden, he is keenly aware of the hit he is taking with americans around the country as they see rising prices at the pump and hit the road for this holiday so i've been told by a senior administration official as you said that the president today is going to announce he is tapping

into these oil reserves, the strategic oil reserves. 50 million barrels is what we're hearing he will release. the presidents in this country have only released this supply is handful of times. so the big question, when are americans going to feel this impact? experts say the news of this announcement alone is likely to be enough to prompt a short-term drop in oil prices but it's going to take about two weeks for americans to really see this as these prices trickle down to stations around the country. now, the president we've been talking about for so long has been taking a hit in the polls when it comes to his handling of the economy and the white house is saying, look, this is a top priority for him. george, as you mentioned, he has announced he is nominating jerome powell as fed chair. powell was former president trump's pick for this post as well and by keeping him in that chair, president biden is bucking concerns from some progressives. but the president is making it clear given this inflation and the economy we are seeing right now, he doesn't want the instability, george.

he says powell is the right person for the job at this time. >> the message is stay the course. cecelia, thanks very much. robin? now to the thanksgiving travel rush. what you need to know if you're among the more than 50 million heading out. first to trevor ault with what to expect if you're hitting the road. good morning, trevor. >> reporter: good morning, robin. aaa is expecting 48.3 million americans to drive somewhere this thanksgiving. that amount of travel would get pretty close to the numbers we saw prepandemic back in 2019. though, of course, we just heard from cecilia's report, americans who are driving this thanksgiving are going to be paying a lot more than they have in the past several years. despite those efforts from the biden administration, the gas price average for a gallon is about $3.40, about a buck and a quarter more than it was this time last year. if you are going to be driving this week, it's going to be quite difficult to avoid the traffic. so tomorrow through sunday your best times will be in the mornings, think before 11:00 a.m. or tomorrow night.

you could go after 9:00 so long as you aren't driving too far. though iesyoy, saturday orunda you should plan on pretty heavy traffic from noon all the way into and through the evenings. michael? >> all right, trevor, thank you. now going to tell you what you need to know if you're taking to the skies. we're going to go to victor oquendo at miami international airport. good morning, victor. >> reporter: good morning, michael. the tsa is bracing for a very, very busy thanksgiving weekend saying they expect travel volumes to reach 2019 prepandemic levels and screening 20 million passengers overall so airports will be packed today and tomorrow with about 2.1 million projected travelers. the tsa saying sunday after thanksgiving will actually be the busiest travel day of the year with an estimated 2.4 million. the good news is the agency said it is confident and it has the staffing needed to manage this holiday travel crush.

as for the best times to fly this holiday, at this point you most likely or should already have your tickets. but wednesday will have the highest number of departures, sunday with the highest number of flights overall. stop me if you've heard this before. allow yourself some extra time if you're planning on flying over thanksgiving and arrive at least two hours before your flight. michael? >> victor, the busiest airport, what's that? >> reporter: well, right now i can tell you it feels like miami international airport but it is actually atlanta. plan on some extra time if you're flying there or connecting through there. michael? >> all right, victor, thank you for the advice as always. now going to go to the weather and ginger with the forecast. is it looking good? >> reporter: michael, i don't know that we could ask for a better forecast for a holiday travel weekend. we've seen ugly ones in years past and deserve this. there are some lake-effect snow showers. you could see some squalls, of course, something you want to pay close attention to if you're traveling in the lee of the lakes. syracuse picked up anywhere from two to five inches. there will be more lake effect

protests last year over the police shooting of jacob blake in kenosha, he now insists the case never had anything to do with race. >> i'm not a racist person. i support the blm movement and peacefully demonstrating and i believe there needs to be change. >> reporter: he says he resents becoming a political symbol. >> this is something that i wish never would have happened, but it did and we can't change that. how polarized it became is absolutely sickening. like right or left, people using me for a cause that should never have been used as a cause. >> reporter: rittenhouse says he wasn't surprised by the not guilty verdict and is now looking towards his future. >> i am hoping i can live a quiet stress-free life and just go on with my life as a normal 18-year-old kid attending college. >> reporter: but for anthony huber's family that acquittal meant something different. >> we relived his death all over again that moment.

>> reporter: kyle rittenhouse will probably face more legal consequences of his actions. the families of the people that he shot are willing to sue him and it looks like they will do that. he does say he wants to go on and have a career either in nursing or maybe he wants to become a lawyer. robin? >> all right, terry, thank you. we're going to turn to a startling moment when a wrestling fan came speeding out of nowhere on live tv, tackled a wwe star. will reeve is there in brooklyn with what happened there last night. good morning, will. >> reporter: hey, good morning, robin. seth rollins is one of wwe's biggest stars and last night at the barclay center he was leafing the stage when out of nowhere he was blind-sided by a spectator. they went to the ground, a tussle ensued. referees, security guards

pouncing on the man pummeling him, detaining him as rollins got up furious screaming at the man along with the fans who were surrounding the incident and the first part of it aired on tv. and you may be thinking this is pro wrestling, it had to have been staged, no, this was unscripted, unexpected. much of the shocking scene caught on cell phone camera by the fans right around those barriers next to where it happened and something similar happened at barclay's in 2019, a spectator rushing the ring attacking bret "the hit man" hart. as for last night's incident, the 24-year-old man was arrested, charged with attempted assault. the wwe said in a statement he had been turned over to the nypd and will be prosecuted to the pu fullest extent of the law. >> oh, my goodness. that's what people thought and will addressed it. it was not staged. all right, turning now to a record-breaking monday night football game for mike evans. the tampa bay bucs wide receiver scored his 72nd career touchdown. that's the most in tampa bay franchise history. did it against my giants, of

parent and child pair to blast into space. just two days ago i tried on my flight suit for the very first time. >> fits like a glove. >> reporter: in just 16 days i will go where few men and women have gone before. >> a few adjustments and we are a-okay, perfect fit. going to space. >> going to space. >> wow. how did this all happen? >> blue origin, they approached me and they asked if i wanted to be a crew member and without hesitation, excuse me, without hesitation, i said yes. >> what made you want to do it? i think beg there t first launch just really -- it was mind blowing. and innovators have been risk takers, you know, the wright brothers. how would we live without a plane now? we don't think about that and i believe this is a way of being innovative, creative, pioneers in aviation, now space travel and it's going to take a while but i do believe it will bring a

lot of technological breakthroughs and also innovations to us here on earth and i just wanted to be a part of it. i just, you know, was really enamored by the first flight i saw. >> very cool. so what's next? >> i have to go down to texas. i have to head to the blue origin facility, in about a week and a half and do all the safety briefings and get prepared, all the training it takes to do it. and i have a great crew who i've met over zoom and we have laura shepard churchley, the daughter of alan shepard, dylan taylor, evan dick, he is an investor, and lane bess, founder of bess ventures and joining him is his child cameron, the first parent/child going to space. to see everybody on the zooms, to see the excitement to do this and to come together, i mean, you really feel like you're part

of the team. i'm excited to get to texas to the blue origin training facility and just enjoy the whole process of it. >> it's really something. >> i'll bring you something back. all right. let's go to gio. gio is where i'm going to be in about a week and a half, the blue origin training center in texas. hey, gio. >> reporter: hey, michael. you know, listen, i remember watching you when you were watching that launch and i saw the wonder in your eyes and i knew right away something ignited within you right there, my friend. so i'm very, very excited for you and this right here, you're going to get well acquainted with this. this is the training capsule. this is what you're going to be using to train and really get a sense for what it's going to feel like before you launch into space. so let's go ahead and go inside the new shepherd. this is an exact replica and this right here is your seat. you can actually see it's pretty roomy in here which is good for saw u t that harne o y did really well but, listen, my friend, it is a very different thing when you have to put this
