this is the bay areas news station. kron 4 news starts with breaking news per >> we're following breaking news out of florida, 2 people dead and at least 17 others injured following a deadly shooting outside a nightclub this is video just into the kron 4 newsroom from the scene of the shooting at club blue bar and grill in fort myers florida. it advertised a swimsuit glow party at the club last night and the fire says no identification was required to enter so is open to all ages. three people are in custody this morning. police are still working out the details and of course still investigating the case.

>> the officers arrived on the scene and found multiple victim suffering from gunshot wounds. ems was called in multiple units came and responded to help transport patients from the scene. right now we have an active scene here. we have crime scene processing it, trying to put it together and figure out exactly what happened. >> reporter: about one hour ago, florida police say that the area around the nightclub's safe and the shooting comes one month after a nightclub shooting in orlando, which was the deadly shooting and modern us history. the shooting at the pulse nightclub on june 12 killed 49 people and injured 53 others. we are going to monitor that situation and let you know what investigators find out. they do not have a motive behind the murders. we want to turn our attention to monday morning forecast . a live look outside from the camera, along the embarcadero and meteorologist --

morning fog, mostly sunny, a mild afternoon at that and the temperatures right now, upper 50s to be had, and concord 59, 58 for livermore and 50 for the east bay shoreline, 59 san jose and san francisco, 54 and the contrast is pretty close to this time yesterday. -24 concord and hayward a little bit behind an interesting, there are -- they are 5 degrees behind from yesterday. seeing the warm-up happening today, we have got the pink in the sacramento valley, 100+ and we may top there and we have only more heat into, for the east bay shoreline and relief there and also for the peninsula with temperatures more modest. getting two 9:15 pm, 10:00, it's spills in and that -- it returns. here is what you can expect. up to about 83 high noon, 69 until 70 cover the bay -- covering the bay and we will examine that seven-day forecast in a bid. robin is standing by with the first winter traffic. no major hotspots out

there and if you need to get it to san francisco, a live look at the bay bridge install plaza, and it is quiet right now on 80 coming out of oakland into san francisco. no delays here approaching the toll plaza. 92, and the turbo across the san mateo bridge, not going to be a problem if you need to get to the peninsula. 15 minutes from 882 the 101 connector. checking a ride across the golden bay bridge -- south 101 on the left, a commute direction and so far at the limit, less than 25 minutes from -- over to the san francisco side so it is a good ride. one problem in the south bay, south 87 after 280, overturn accident where a car landed on its wheels and the ramp is partially blocked after the 280 split with no major live -- the

opposite side, the commute is looking great and the rest of the south bay is doing fine and the drive times for the east bay is nice and smooth, 13 minutes, 160 out to 242 and no problems and a 101 north out of san jose into sunday bill, that average drive is checking in at eight. 16 minutes. the top story, bay area uber driver arrested and accused of sexually assaulting a passenger. a woman says the driver balter inside his car, touched her legs several times, and then kissed her before she managed to get away. kron 4 talk to to uber and lift -- lyft riders to see if they feel safe. >> reporter: a female passenger reports that she was sexually harassed by her uber driver in palo alto. police identified redwood city resident as a suspect. uber had prohibited him from work following the allegations. >> i have a feeling -- i think that it goes to justify that women are really not safe using things like this. >> reporter: there are women at risk of being sexually assaulted. way to getting into a ridesharing car. >> generally, yeah. [ laughter ] i am sure that there are occasions where guys are made to feel uncomfortable but i think it is the nature of

being a woman in the world that we live in. that we worry more. >> reporter: most men i spoke with agreed that they feel at ease. >> i think that being a man gives to be less of a chance of being harassed and sexually abused in an uber. i have never felt unsafe when i have used it, if it has been male or female. from what they say they are appalled at the thought that women are preyed on as a target. >> i feel like the uber system is great. it is a cheap and easy way to get around but it is -- if that is what is going on to girls inside the cars, that is horrible and i'm glad that he lost his job. >> reporter: most agreed that it is female passengers that have more to worry about getting into an uber car. >> that control of women in a lot of ways. they are able to take them wherever. so it is pretty scary to know. >> reporter: others share their awkward moments. >> i think that the time i felt most uncomfortable is one of

-- one of the uber driver started talking to me -- he had just broken up with someone and he started explaining what he likes in a woman. >> reporter: despite that is covered, some agreed that it is convenient and they will continue to use it. >> it will not make me stop using uber. at the democratic national convention kicks off in philadelphia. for a look at the scandal at the dnc and hillary clinton's running mate, we go live to the national correspondent chance seales, and inside the wells fargo center where it will start in just a few hours from now. the vp choice of tim kaine, was it a safe choice? what are people talking about? what are people saying about that? >> reporter: good morning. it is definitely a safe choice. is a pretty moderate senator from the state of virginia and he is very well-liked within the senate. i can tell you that some people on the far left of the democratic party are think that he is a little too conservative on the abortion issue.

he is devoutly catholic. however, overall, we are seeing that he has been very well received. over the weekend he and hillary clinton had their first joint rally and they were on the stage in florida together and he rolled out assets that they believe will pay -- play well in the general election but never one he is fluent in spanish and he told the crowd, we are all americans and we all belong here, trying to contrast the democrats with republicans and he also directly took on donald trump by name. >> we have seen again and again that would donald trump says he has your back, you better watch out. >> reporter: as the other hillary clinton tim kaine ticket rolls on, thousands of police on hand and they have the area aamodt down right around the wells fargo center and there are various, gays, checkpoints and everything you would imagine that there would be but it is not as strict as what we saw in cleveland last

week. today officially things will gavel into session at 3:00 p.m. on the east coast so noon in san francisco. and that is when they will get to some of the rules, the technicalities and move on to the big night events -- that will be first lady michelle obama and then bernie sanders, the one who gave hillary clinton a run for her money. he will be on stage saying to vote for hillary. >> speaking of bernie sanders, the chairwoman a suddenly stepped down over the weekend. what are people saying about her? as well as about bernie sanders. he was talking for months about how he wanted to take this to philadelphia and try to win the ticket. >> reporter: like you alluded to, he really is connected to all of this and that is because debbie wasserman schultz, the chair of the party, always said that she was impartial and she would let the election play

out. there is a new hack attack that took place and released at least 20,000 emails from the upper echelon of the democratic party and it shows throughout the process it seems that many of them were working in favor of hillary clinton, wanting her to get the nomination so where does that leave us? wasserman schultz will officially presiding the convention but she will have a very small role and it is really in name only. she is going to step down at the end of the week and then taking over will be donna brazil who actually -- we saw walk into the arena and she is wearing a blue blazer, talking to folks on the network shows and she will be the face of the party at least through november and it is a very welcome change for many in the party, including bernie sanders who has long said that marsha michelle to read this against me and she is on her way out. >> it is not a boring time if you like politics. thank you so much, reporting live are from philadelphia. keep it here on kron 4 for the democratic national convention in philadelphia. we will have full coverage and political analysis all week long right here on kron 4. to an update on the oakland police sergeant who were shot

after getting out of -- getting into a car crash. we now have sound from the scene. you can take a listen. i just got shot. >> it came over the police scanners on saturday night before 9:30 pm. and the officer is out of the hospital. police it tells that the female sergeant was responding to a call when she got into a car accident with another car and after the collision, a man approached her patrol car and fired one shot, hitting her. the shooter is on the loose and investigators are gathering surveillance video from the area of 73rd and international to see what happened before the shootings since the deadly ambush of five dallas police members of -- five police officers and members of opd have been patrolling. that -- they have been riding alone. a spare the air alerts in effect because a wildfire is breathing through the state ways that you can help improve the air quality.

and welcome back. we want to go outside quickly and show you a live shot from the golden gate bridge. if you are going from the north bay into san francisco, this is exactly what you will see. at least at this particular time. very few cars on the roadway. and i do not see any fog and i will tell you -- but there is some glaze going on. >> i thought that was just the glare. >> i can testify that there was fraud. >> i will defer to the expert.

everybody that crossed it is an expert. >> it is a beautiful bridge and speaking of the fog, are we going to have it hanging around? it has been a hot. >> is going to mix out for us is what we are going to have an plenty of sunshine for everybody -- to let -- of the temperatures climb. you will see it in the seven- day forecast. we have got hot ones. the bay bridge, you can see, and let's go ahead and jump to activity -- did i hit something wrong? that was me doing that. i went backwards but i do not want to do that on a monday morning. 58 in oakland, hayward, 58, concord 59, 58 for livermore and 54 for san francisco so let's show you how hot it will get across the region. the greens disappear quickly if we mix that out. look at the pink off to the sacramento valley and that is 100+.

we will see the 90s encroach well into the business of the east bay for today. holding off on the hundreds for now and around the perimeter of the day, 60s and 70s but 80s may pop out which we will show you around the peninsula. the temperatures are moderate and we will see after 9:00, some of the ocean cooled air returning of the valleys and the warm-up -- it remains in the south west with plenty of 100, las vegas, phoenix, where we have the red-hot pocket at work. for another day. and we are going to get the piece of the action for us in our area as for the next several days -- it will be indicative of that. you can see the cool down that happens if you want to call it that, with 90s well into the evening. i want to bring your attention to tropical storm fred, another when vacancies south of baja california, and the maximum winds, about 55 and going forward, until wednesday, still a tropical storm although barely and then it will diminish into a tropical depression -- depression. this may send us some swells

and waves to the coast later on for the week. 63 downtown san francisco, twin peaks, going down to the peninsula, looking at 78 for san mateo, the city, 68, 67, 66 for pacifica, palo alto, 83, 84 redwood, 59 for half moon bay and down to the south, looking at 89, santa clara, cupertino, a toasty 94 for today and the mountain view, 80, 82 and along the is they shoreline, we have 70s in place, 76 for oakland, 86 hayward, 93 danville, 95 for pleasanton and walnut creek, about 93 and there is more where that came from. night is going on for the east bay, inland, but after that, 102, 103, 104 into thursday and finally we get relief towards the end of the week. things are quiet and traffic.

it is quiet and you have all of the hot spots. looking good so far around the bay and i've spotted accidents but nothing major, fender benders here or there and a look at the richmond bridge, 580 west approaching the toll plaza got nice and light and if you need to get into the north bay, eight minutes from the gates out to the 101 connector. 101 across the golden gate bridge, a good ride into san francisco, no major problems. doyle drive -- they are all looking good and if you need to go into san francisco, the only problem is south 87 after 280, closer to the on and off ramp and a car flipped over but it landed -- the roadway is partially blind, not causing a major delay and center shortly, 87, 101, 17 and 680 looking good so san jose, santa clara, mountain view is a good ride. checking and 24, westbound, an easy commute at the walnut creek, lafayette, over to the oak inside, only 11 minutes from the 680, 24 split to the oakland a's so that is a great community -- and along dublin,

into castro valley, only nine minutes from the dublin interchange out to 238 and checking back in on -- rolling through san jose, that is looking good so if you have to go north from 280 up to 237, a quick eight minutes. up for your money, the midsummer relief at the gas pump continues. the national average has dropped seven cents over the past three weeks. experts say we can thank a lower oil prices and plenty of gasoline supply and that the prices -- $.60 a lesser than it was exactly one year ago. aaa says that california prices have dropped a few fractions of a sense since a week ago and that that does the downward trend could continue for the rest of the year. let's take a look at the gas

prices this morning. in oakland, for a regular gallon of gasoline, it is $2.80 and in the south bay, san jose, two cents more, $2.82 and in san francisco -- you guessed it -- more expensive at $2.94 but it is still at least one dollar cheaper than it was one year ago. over 50 acres burned in a grass fire in martinez. you are looking at some of the video that one of the viewer sent to us when a fire broke out and this is a long -- you can see the traffic to the right, the fire burning on the hillside and firefighters managed to control the fire that shutdown a freeway and it had a family on edge as they watch from the ranch. reporting from martinez after speaking to a family whose barn was just a few feet away from the fire. >> reporter: this family has owned the cattle ranch for five generations and for a while, they did not know if it would be around. >> they had helicopters and airplanes and the whole thing. from of the fire near the roadway in the coming skyway started at about 4:30 pm and it spread quickly. >> they found fire on both sides of the freeway and the north and south side >> reporter: eventually the flames scorched 51 acres and

on monterey county, a while fire has burned more than 11,000 acres and it is only 5% contained. the fire is burning near big sur and that california foerster department says it is threatening over 1500 homes and other buildings. the community is still under an evacuation order. a right now we know that six homes and 2 sheds have been destroyed by the fire and officials were in the community of the carmel highlands to be prepared to leave at any moment. the fire started on friday in a remote area south of the state park. the fire in monterey is having a ripple effect. the smoke and a series of hot days has resulted in a spare the air smog alert this is the ninth so far this year and the -- reporting on this health alert. >> reporter: when we have a long series of hot is like we have been having for the past few days and what will experience in minutes -- next week, that cooks up the air

we're coming up on 4:30 am at some of the big stories we're working on. and uber driver behind bars accused of sexually assaulting a passenger. it happened on friday night in east paul also put a woman says the driver locked her inside his car, touched her leg several times and kissed her before she managed to get away. uber says that man has been prohibited from their service. oakland police looking for the gunman who opened fire on an officer. it happened saturday night near 73rd and international and there is the video. that sergeant got into an accident with another car and after the crash a man approached her patrol car and fired one shot. the officer was not hit but she was taken to the hospital for injuries that she sustained during the crash. a while far and monterey county has burned 11,000 acres. right now this morning it is only 5% contained. the fire is burning near big

into lower 80s territory by that point. a first look at traffic or another look at traffic. let's check back in on the bay bridge commute into san francisco. everybody's going back to work this morning and it is nice and quiet out there with no major hotspots, traffic alerts so if you need to get into san francisco, traffic is moving at the lived on westbound 80, a nice ride back into 90 -- how about 92, the ride -- san mateo bridge -- westbound bridge is looking good coming out of hayward. san mateo, 101, 280, no major trouble spots and the golden gate bridge, a nice commute, nice and quiet on the 101, no major problems into or out of san francisco. an accident wrapping up in the south they, south 87, elm avenue clear from the off ramp and he never backed up traffic -- a vehicle flipped over so if you need to use it, there are no problems northbound, 101 looking good and 280, also 880 a nice commute and drive times,

maybe to get over to the east shore, 80 west, smooth from hercules, richmond, el cerrito, and it is doing fine, 680 no major trouble spots and the guadalupe parkway, nine minutes from 85 up to the 101 connector. happening today, the final funeral for the baton rouge law enforcement officer shot and killed in an ambush last week several san francisco police officers will be at the funeral. the three officers left oakland international airport last night. they feel that it's important to honor their fellow officers. one of the officer's uncle was a police officer killed in line of duty in 1998. he knows firsthand how hard it is for the families of the fallen officers. >> unfortunately, there is always a constant reminder of how it affected me and my family back in 1998 and it is a constant reminder to tell me what the families are going through in louisiana and dallas and essentially nationwide for law enforcement right now. it is a tough time. >> it is an honor and a privilege to be able to

represent san francisco going into baton rouge louisiana. to pay respects to the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice by dying in the line of duty. >> it is very important because the camaraderie across the country -- i have been following it and noticing how many officers from all of the country, every state has been represented so i think it is important that we show -- pay our respects and support to those agencies. >> the south san francisco police officers are going to the funeral of montrell jackson, who is in the middle of the screen. is the father of a newborn child and the other officers have already been laid to rest. decision 2016, democrats no doubt hope that their national convention would be

free of the infighting at last week's republican national convention but with us sunday announcement of the resignation of a debbie wasserman schultz, the convention's first day may not present as strong a united front as the democrats had hoped for cnn at reid binion reports on the scandal clouding the first day of the dnc. >> reporter: just days ago, dnc chairwoman of debbie wasserman schultz seemed energized. >> you get bruised along the way and a rough and tumble a primary but i'm looking forward to it. >> reporter: when it closes out, she closes out her dnc chair tenure as well, agreeing sunday to step down after a slew of emails surfaced showing that dnc staffers favored hillary clinton over bernie sanders in the parties 2016 primary contests. >> i think it is outrageous but it is not a great shock to me. from of the emails nearly 20,000 of them were released friday by wikileaks and the dnc has previously been hit by hackers that may have had tied to the russians and the campaign manager says that without offering any proof this release may be part of an effort to influence the election.

>> other experts are saying that the russians are releasing these emails for the purpose of actually helping donald trump and i do not think it is coincidental that the emails were released on the eve of our convention. >> reporter: donald trump campaign is manager scoffed at that suggestion. >> it is absurd. i do not know anything. you may know it and then you ought to expose it to say that you know, i do not know what you are talking about. >> reporter: reid binion, reporting. happening today, two months since a teenager vanish. he was kidnapped on may 25 while on her way to school. and there is her picture. the witnesses saw the 15-year- old being taken away by an armed man on the 780 overpass

near her home and she has not been seen. to keep hope alive, that she will be found, her family is holding a prayer vigil at the overpass tonight at 7:30 pm. her suspected kidnapper is 19- year-old fernando castro who died in a shootout with police in southern california, taking with him all possible answers. days after a gun man's rampage in munich, he set off an explosive device elsewhere in germany but at least 12 people were injured in that attack. this happened in the southern german city of -- and police say that he triggered the bomb when he was turned away from an open air music festival last night. the concert with a 2500 people in attendance was quickly shut down as a precaution for everybody's safety. germany is on edge after a deadly rampage at a munich mall on friday in which nine people were killed and because of an ax attack on a train last week, in which five people were wounded during that incident. police in germany have arrested a 16-year-old afghan in connection to the shooting rampage at a shopping mall. nine people were killed and dozens of others were wounded. police say the teenager was a friend of the gun man and they say that he may have known more about the deadly attacks that he first -- that he first admitted during the initial investigation. a makeshift memorial near the scene of the shooting, mourners gathered over the weekend to pay their respects. >> one of my friends defected

welcome back to the kron 4 morning news with a look at the major headlines you need to know before you go out the door. we're following breaking news out of florida, two people dead and at least 16 others injured after a shooting outside of a florida bar. three people are in custody this morning and as you can see, investigators are at the scene trying to get more information. so far no motive for the attack. today is day one of the democratic national convention in philadelphia. hillary clinton announced her running mate, virginia senator tim kaine and this comes as the chairwoman debbie wasserman schultz is stepping down following the dnc email leaks. after the convention, donna brazil who ran al gore's campaign will be the interim chair. three police officers will be in attendance at one of the officers in baton rouge -- at his funeral. that officer was killed last week and you can see the three officers at oakland. they left yesterday afternoon. they should be in baton rouge at this particular time for the other two -- the other

>> that was a call from an oakland police sergeant who a shot at after getting into a car crash over the weekend that happen before 9:30 pm on saturday night near 73rd avenue and international boulevard and the police say that she was responding to a call when she got into an accident and after the crash, the man approached -- fired one shot, hitting the police car..-- the officer was hospitalized but is back home this morning and the shooter is on the lose. investigators are looking at surveillance video. oakland police officers have been riding in paris since the deadly ambush of five police officers. patrol sergeants have been riding alone. we're keeping an eye on several wildfires that are burning across california. firefighters in the east bay were able to contain this grass fire near martinez and you can see it caused quite a bit of smoke and this is the video that was sent in by a kron 4 viewer. the fire started at about 4:30 pm on highway 4 and franklin canyon road, west of franklin canyon golf horse and firefighters were able to get it under control within about five hours. the fire was burning in both sides. on both sides of the highway. that led to a temporary shutdown of highway 4. over 50 acres burned by fire unexpected winds are feeding this wildfires in southern california and it has led to evacuations. about 20,000 people have been evacuated because of the sand fire. that fire is burning north of los angeles in the santa

clarita area and one person has been found dead in the fire zone and at least 18 homes have been destroyed a 40 mile stretch of state route 14 is closed because of the fire and the smoke was so thick yesterday that airplanes were not able to drop their fire retardant over-the-top like they had been earlier in the day. it started friday afternoon and it has burned more than 50 mi.2 and it is only 10% contained. more than 16 mi.2 have burned in a wildfire in monterey county. this some brains fire is -- it is burning in an area south of carmel and north of big sur and it is 5% contained with more than 1600 structures currently threatened. six homes, and two outbuildings have been destroyed and the fire started friday in a remote area south of the state park. the smoke from the fire in monterey county as well as the hot weather in the bay area -- this there -- it is the night spare the air other this year and the air quality is expected to be unhealthy with winds bringing smoke from the monterey county fire to set --

cash lanes and if you look over to the left, you can see a minor way to the cash lanes but the right side is open and the fast-track lanes are open. no problems in the maze and in downtown san francisco so you can come and -- it is looking pretty good, 10 minutes from the base over to the skyway. 92, the ride across the san mateo bridge has been quiet all morning so it is not going to be a problem if you need to go to the peninsula. 15 minutes from 882 to 101 in san mateo. golden gate bridge, a nice commute into and out of san francisco, san rafael, sausalito, not a problem for southbound 101, less than 25 minutes from 37 over to the toll plaza and connecting onto dual oil. a little bit of slow traffic through the east bay, 580 west out of tracy and the altima, mountain house, shortly after that it will pick up so it is not continue to livermore or dublin and the drive time, only 26 minutes and that is from 205 out to the dublin interchange for the rest of the east bay is good, the freeway 682 freeman, no major problems and checking in on the south bay, also hot spot free, to 37, 880, and 17 looking good and moving back to the limit.

-south bay the search is on for the attacker involved in a deadly stabbing in downtown san jose. it happened at around 1:45 am in the morning near south second and market streets. officers found a man who had been stabbed at least once he died at the hospital. police have not released a motive and it marks the 28th homicide in san jose. just this year. 2 people are dead after shootings in oakland. a man was killed in east oakland on holly street around 1:15 am and a woman was injured in a second shooting around 1:50 am on international boulevard near the station and another man was killed in west oakland near seventh and market streets around 1:20 pm yesterday afternoon. police have identified 2 suspects but no arrests have been made. that -- today is the final funeral for one of the baton rouge law enforcement officers who was shot and killed in an ambush. three south san francisco police officers are attending mass funeral. kron 4 was there as they left oakland international airport and they say that they want to

honor their fellow officers and one of the officers knows firsthand how hard it is for the families of fallen officers. his uncle was a police officer killed in the line of duty back in 1998. >> unfortunately there is always a constant reminder of how it affected me and my family back in 1998 and it is a constant reminder to tell me what the families are going through in louisiana and dallas and essentially nationwide. for law enforcement right now. it is a tough time. >> it is an honor and a privilege to be able to represent san francisco, going to baton rouge louisiana, pay respect to officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice by dying in the line of duty. >> it is important because it shows camaraderie across the country. officers from all of the country, every state has been represented and i think it is very important that we all show

back to breaking news, at least 2 people dead after a shooting. this happened last night during an event from middle school and high school students and kron 4 -- at the breaking news desk with the latest. >> so far police do not have a motive for the murders and the shooting which injured 17 others and at least 17 others have does it happened in the parking lot. their parents were in the parking lot getting ready to pick up the kids were happened right in front of their eyes and there is video from the scene into the kron 4 newsroom. it happened at the club blue bar and grill in fort myers florida. hospital officials say that the victims range in age from 12 until 27 years old. four people are being treated this morning. if they are in the hospital. police say that three people are in custody and reports -- those three people have nothing to do with the teenagers at the club and they come from the outside but their names are not being released at this time.
