and for this morning. but things have been dissipating. the bulk of the activity in terms of the active weather is down towards central and southern california. temperatures right now look at that. santa rosa has cooled off to 33 degrees. so there's a chill in the air up in sonoma county. san francisco 45. and san jose currently checking in at 50 degrees. we will talk more about the weekend outlook in few minutes. time 7:01. let's check in with allie standing by with an update on the rowways. how we looking? traffic looks good. a lot of light traffic heading out on the roads. wherever you are going. especially in the south bay of the no problems to tell you about here. 7:00 on a regular weekday morning when we see the commute build up that's not the case. a lot of people staying home or maybe out of town. let's check on that crash we told you about earlier in the vallejo area. eastbound 80 at american canyon on the way to being a cleared up at this point. the lanes are back opened as tow trucks responded to the

scene earlier 3-car crash now in very much in the clearing stages. bay bridge toll plaza traffic is light as well. metering lights not turning on today at least not yet. we don't expect them to. they have not been on during the morning commute. all this week. 7:02 now back to the desk. >> thank you. a 6-year-old vallejo boy spent christmas in the hospital after he was shot by a stray bullet. gunfire started about 6:30 tuesday night. >> an area on ohio and mariposa streets off interstate 80. neighbors say they heard morethan a dozen gunshots. some bullets hit homes. boy was with family at the time what bullet hit him in the upper body. he was driven to the hospital and is currently in critical condition. . >> you is posed supposed to be wake up and opening up presents and eating food and being around people he loves but he is in at hospital. >> i pray and hope that his family can recover from this because this is unacceptable.

. >> vallejo police have not announced whether they believe it was an act of one gunman or multiple shooters. vallejo's mayor says he has been in communication with the police chief about the shooting and they are working on a violence reduction program for that particular neighborhood. back to developing news a late night crash near pleasanton that left three teens dead and two with serious injuries. ktvu alyssa has new information to bring us from the chp. >> reporter: good morning. that's right. you can see the road remains closed and that's because pg&e is on scene repairing a power line. chp told us that there were five teenagers in this car. two were brothers, one a cousin of the brothers, and the others friends. family members came to the scene last night. . >> it's terrible. it's just pretty much your worst nightmare and never want to see on the job. >> reporter: the chp says the

driver of a hyundai sedan was traveling southbound on foothilroad crossing into northbound lanes and veered into a power pole and slammed into a tree. three males were found trapped inside the vehicle. they were all pronounced dead at the scene. two others a male and a female, were ejected. they were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. . >> this particular roadway is a two-lane country roadway one northbound and one southbound lane divided by a double yellow lane striping. this particular portion of the road, there is a slight curve prior to the collision scene. whether or not that played a part in the collision, still under investigation at this time. but, as is your typical two- lane country road. >> reporter: the cause of the crash remains under investigation. all those in the vehicle were from the dublin area. no names have been released. these were all teens. chp says they were under the age of 18. we are not sure what high

school they went to, but, again a. very tragic scene. what we know is pg&e is still out here making repairs and they plan to be out here until late this afternoon maybe until 4 p.m. so expect the road to be closed until then. reporting live near pleasanttonon, elissa harington. police are investigating a mysterious death finding aunconscious man in the street. he was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. police checked into whether he was hit by a car but investigators say they ruled out a traffic accident as the cause of death. they are considering it homicide. this was san jose's 33rd homicide of 2019. there were 27 last year and 34 the year before that. today the four mothers who took only a vacant home are due in court. they and their children moved in last month. they say it had been vacant for years but wedgewood a real estate investment company that bought the house in july evicted the families earlier had month a. oakland community

land trust offered to buy the home and rent it to the mothers, but an attorney for the mother says the company won't negotiate. . president trump spending the holidays in florida where he and the first lady delivered a christmas message. . >> on behalf of the entire trump family, we wish everyone a joyous and merry christmas. >> but the president clearly has impeachment on his mind. posting a series of tweets criticizing democrats and especially the house speaker nancy pelosi for trying to influence the term of the impeachment trial in the senate. . >> the speaker is waiting to understand what the rules of the trial are going to be so she is appointing the right people. . >> and now at least one republican senator alaska senator lisa markowski told tv station she has concerns about comments majority leader mcconnell made about coordinating everything about the trial with the white house. more than 20 new state laws

go into effect on the first day of the new year. one of them is the gig worker law which reclassifies independent contractors including ride share drivers as employees. the law was approved to make sure those workers are at minimum wage and get paid sick days and health insurance. but not all independent contractors like the law. including many free lance musicians and journalists. recently independent truck drivers and free lance journalists filed separate lawsuits to have the law overturned. another now law will bump the minimum wage in california up to $13 an hour for companies that have at least 23 employees. workers in smaller companies will see their minimum wage increase to $12 an hour. by the year 2023, california workplaces regardless of the number of employees will have to pay at least $15 an hour. and several bay area cities will start with $15 an hour. belmont and minimum low park will raise their wages. petaluma and south san francisco will bump up the pay to $15 for large employers and

$14 an hour for smaller ones. san mateo minimum hourly wage is $15 and that's increasing to $15.38 come january 1st. 7:08 your time. a lot of folks probably still sleeping in this day after christmas but there are a few people out on the roads. let's check in with allie. the operative word a few. not a lot of traffic so we will show you the traffic cameras to take you outdoors for this pretty nicerise on a much clearer morning compared to yesterday morning. 8 80 north and southbound looks good as you make are way towards the mcarthur maze. san mateo bridge no problems here and, also the richmond bridge toll plaza very light just half a dozen cars or so making their way over to marin county and wore more check. well let's show you a wide map of the east ba westbound 80 corridor. our east shore camera east

shore freeway camera is not working. so we will show outmap instead and you can see it's a nice drive and drive trial from the carquinez bridge to the mcarthur maze is 20 minutes. toll plaza light as well. good morning to you. and thankfully we are not talking about any major weather concerns for today. the storm clouds from yesterday shifting out to the south. so with that, the clouds from this morning will turn into partly sunny skies later on today. still a. bit of a breeze. we have winds around 10 to 20 miles an hour. and highs mainly in the 50s. so look at this active radar. all the showers and even snow showers down towards central and southern california, in fact, right now, we have coverage snow coverage on the grapevine impacting travel. looks like they closed the grapevine on interstate 5 because of the snowfall but we have the rain and snow down towards central and southern california. in fact here's current warnings, winter storm warning all the areas in white and a

flood advisory mainly focused down towards oceanside and approaching san diego. for us, we have this. the clouds and stale few lingering showers so we are not 100% dry just yet. still the possibility of a few leftover showers a. few sprinkles, mainly in the south bay for this morning. but the clouds will gradually scoot on out to the south. and leaving us with more sunshine this afternoon. current numbers santa rosa has cooled off. 33 # degrees right now. san francisco, 45. and san jose checking in 50. and as far as the winds, early yesterday strong winds and last night wind starting to back off but with the numbers coming down, but there's bit of a breeze down in the santa clara valley. san jose airport right now reporting a gust of 22 miles an hour. and forecast highs for today, it will be in the 50s. so clouds this morning, more sunshine this afternoon. and one more rain chance in our five-day forecast and we will have that coming up in just a few minutes. . thank you, mark. a woman was seriously and perm fently injured by using popular

lady of guadalupe church following a robbery off donation money box last weekend a gofundme page raised more than 13,000 dollar at last check. surveillance footage here shows two people entering the church distracting a cleaning lady as you can see walk off with a large collection box. the box was filled with money from selling holiday candles. and all the proceed were going to be used to buy toys for children in the congregation at a big celebration in january. >> the family in san francisco celebrating the return of their dog. this is surveillance video that shows a woman grabbing the french bulldog on christmas afternoon. the family says they returned from getting groceries when they noticed lola who follows him through the door was nowhere to be found. . >> we were shocked. we never thought that something like that could happen. it is something we do hundreds of times during the year, going in and out of the house with lola following us. and never thought this could happen in our neighborhood. >> lola was returned last

francisco's embarcadero that's a big one. san mateo central parkings walnut creek at civic park and downtown brentwood as well. there's a rink in downtown san jose at the napa expo in san rafael. and it is outside the civic center in san francisco. 7:16. two law makers say they will push for new bills that would reduce noise from airplanes arriving and leaving san francisco international airport. people who live near the airport complained for years about aircraft noise. san matay crow congresswoman writes nonstop noise from flights is affecting residents' creep mental health and quality of life. airport officials are not commenting directly on the bills that could change how sfo operates but they said the airport generates more than 34 of a billion dollars of year in revenue and the impact is felt across the bay area. park rangers are trying to figure out circumstances of a visitor's death. a marin county fire can't says the victim was killed by falling debris late tuesday afternoon in the hillside trail area. apparently, a tree fell, hit

other trees causing a bunch of debris to strike this victim. another person was taken to marin general hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. the area has been closed to the public since the incident. and we are learning more about the deadly crash that tied up traffic in berkeley on christmas morning. chp says a woman was killed in four-car crash on westbound interstate 80. honda civic spownt and stalled near gillman street exit. three others car hit the civic. the woman was driving one of those cars. one of the vehicles in the crash also burst into flames. . #:17. let's get you out the door. traffic is atypical today and that's okay by us. >> yeah it's probably aokay by most folks who have to get out and drive this morning. you will have a easy time except for a couple spots. but it's not too bad. this is northbound 101 north of gulf course drive a new crash there single vehicle car crash block one lane.

and over to vallejo where we circle back in check in on the crash that happened about an hour ago eastbound 80 at american canyon. it's now been cleared. all lanes opened. and golden gate bridge traffic is very late. we should mention golden gate fore and golden gate transit is back in service. it was closed yesterday for the christmas holiday. it's back in service limited service on those ferries today. here's also the bay bridge toll plaza if you are driving, you will have an easy time. if you are taking bart into the city, bart is back on its regular weekday schedule although they are running fewer trains than typical on thursday morning commute. time is 7:18. and now over to mark tamayo for the weather. a little bit of clouds but not too bad. that's right. nice to see the traffic cameras with the daylight out there. we are tracking some clouds across portions of the bay area this morning. still a possibility of a few sprinkles primarily focused in the south bay. and heads up before heading to the coast. we will have here a beach

hazard statement until 9 this evening. this is below a high surf advisory and waves around 10 to 15 feet. so a lot of energy heading towards the coastline and also inflated water levels because we have the king tides. we could have minor flooding near portions of the coast and near portion of the bay this morning. at the golden gate bridge high tide at 10:48 this morning. that high tide today 6.6 feet. and satellite and radar showing you this. of course we had intense thunderstorms early christmas morning. and today, the clouds the rain showers focused to the south down towards central and southern california. although things have shifted a bit right now moving into the san diego area. you will notice the white. that's linking up to snowfall in the mountains of southern california. so here, winter storm warning closer to the santa barbara county mountains closer to los angeles. and mountains there and a flood advisory right around the oceanside area. for us, lots of clouds in place. you saw it on the traffic cameras and still green showing up on radar. so we have the possibility of a

few sprinkles or light shower primarily focused in the south bay. this morning. current numbers it's cold up in santa rosa. 33 degrees right now. and novato 37 and hayward 45 and in san jose, one of the warmer spots checking in 50 degrees. and strong winds yesterday, especially last night. and they backed off a bit but not completely calm just yet and few spots san jose airport sustained at 16. gusting to 22 miles an hour. so we have a bit of a breeze out there. and half-moon bay wind around 6 miles an hour. lake tahoe forecast mostly cloudy skies today. temperatures in the lower 7-- 30s and more sunshine by friday and into the weekend, we could track some shower chances especially by sunday afternoon, sunday night that. could impact travel back to the bay area. we watch out that by sunday. forecast today shows the clouds moving to the south. the cloud cover we have this morning will turn into partly sunny skies. this afternoon. and then more sunshine as we

. 7:24 in the health check uc stan san fran researchers are trying to solve a national problem. it's called polypharmacy when doctors identify people who take too many medication and want to get them off the medication they don't need. ucsf and john hopkins say 40% of americans over 65 take 5 or more prescription medications every day. researchers say that can be dangerous manufacture if the medication interact and they say there's no program to help doctors realize when patients need to stop taking some of the drugs. now they are working on about a toy help patients and doctors identify the timeline to come with up plan to deprescribe some of the medications. california public health e skin lightning screams from mexico after a sacramento woman was seriously injured by using a cream that was tainted with a

toxic form of mercury. the california department of public headlight released a list of face creams with mercury. people are warned not to use them. th agency says skin lightening screams creams from mexico contain mercury but the case of the sacramento woman involved an especially toxic form. organizers of the burning manifest val are suing the federal government. black rock city a nonprofit group that organizes the fest rail north of reno. they are ewing to recover million of dollar the bureau of land management overcharged for use permits for the past 7 years. organizers say they have been paying nearly $3 million a year. and they say they have been asking for justification for the cost for 4 years now with no response. they say stie the resorted to filing the lawsuit as a way to get the information. happening today, it's the start of kwanza honoring african heritage. there are events marking kwanza across the bay area and beyond

hazardous beach conditions today. weather official say there's an increased risk of rip currents, sneaker waves and large waves breaks close to the beach. people are being told to stay off the beaches and coastal jetties in san francisco and monterey bay areas. most dangerous conditions are at ocean and marina state beach. warning has been extended according to meteorologists until 9 tonight. perhaps a good day to view but not put your toes in the water. >> yeah. it's one of the deals when ever you go to the coast you see a few more people out there on a day like today. and they might be stepping out too far on rocks. so just keep that in mind. with those waves, waves are around 10 to 15 feet and sneaker waves as you herd in the rip currents. forecast for today, if you are on land we have cloud cover this morning. and partly sunny skies this afternoon. temperatures warming back up into the low to mid-50s. remember the stormy weather we had yesterday early christmas morning where the system is impacting southern california. greens and whites indicating

crash blocking one lane and a new report coming in of a crash in the southbound direction of highway 17 at redwood estates. no information on that crash but we will follow up on it. here's a look at the drive on the san mateo bridge. traffic is much lighter than we usually see on the regular thursday morning. but of course this is the day after a holiday. and a lot of people are staying home. looks like the cars are kind of hitting the brake lights but there's no reported problems on the san mateo bridge. 208 north and southbound in san jose looks good. caltrans bridge cal train is back on its regular weekday schedule. bart is as well. it's 7:32 now back to the desk. i will take it. and happening today a group of mothers who took over a vacant home in oakland will all be in court today. ktvu sara zendehnam has details on the hearing. >> reporter: good morning. those four moms say they didn't have a safe place to go with their kids and moved into a vacant home in oakland. today, they will be in court in

hayward for an eviction hearing. wedgewood real estate investment company and owner of the property served them an eviction notice on december 3 d but they didn't leave. the women filed a claim of right to possession to delay the eviction until the court scheduled the hearing. that hearing is expected to happen at 9 this morning. here's some background. the working moms moved into the empty house in west oakland with their kids in november. they said no one lived there for years and they needed a place to stay. but wedgewood bought the house in july and evicted the moms. now they are heading to court and facing eviction orders. but they have support from some oakland city council members. . >> these women are brave. these women are take urgent action because of the crisis that they are personally experiencing. the crisis of housing affordability and homelessness impacting the city and the state. >> reporter: the attorney representing the women says the oakland community land trust offered to buy home and rent it to them but the attorney says the real estate company won't

negotiate with them. a company spokesperson says this is a straightforward case of illegal entry and illegal occupation. wedgewood asked james washington former nfl super bowl champion to help. he is the founder of nonprofit shelter 37. washington said he will partner with wedgewood to renovate the house and employ at risk youth from oakland. one the renovation is done they will sell it to a first time home buyer with profits split 5050 with the nonprofit. washington is asking them to leave on their own. >> in the united states, you can't take someone's property. >> reporter: the women want supporters to show up at the house on magnolia street at 9 a.m. the same time the hearing is expected to start. in the newsroom, care area zendehna match the. a man accused of killing the brother of cj beathard is behind bars. 23-year-old michael mosley is being hold without bond and a 5

million dollar bond for attempt homicide. he was taken into custody yesterday. investigators say he made wontsed advances towards a woman who was a friend of beathard a fight broke out and mosley stabbed beathard and another man to death and wound another. cj will remain with his family a funeral is set for saturday. a man suspected of arson in southern california is due in court. he is accused of starting 10 wild fires that bender along the shore of a reservoir. the fires were set between late september through november and mejia is accused of sneaking into the foothills hiking from the back of private property. authorities say the fires endangered protected sensitive species. a woman in san francisco found her way to bring a little christmas cheer to people living out on the streets. angela prepared 200 lunches for those who were looking for a hot meal on christmas day. standing on hyde and eddie street she was offering to food to anyone in need and says the

reward was simply gratitude. . >> that he the only gift i got and that's all i wanted. the smiles. and it's wonderful. . >> her grandchildren also helped her hand out the goodies. a nonprofit organization hosted a day long christmas celebration to give people home lease way to get out of cold. city team homeless served up a hot turkey and meal with fixings and guests could watch the nba matchups or sing karaoke. . >> we have a meal today, and next room we have a haircut station. we have a foot washing station. and we have gently used shoes. and we have karaoke behind me. and so, we are going to have a festive day so when our guests come in, they are going to be able to enjoy a meal, they will be able to sit and relax. and really bring in christmas

this happened right past the country club. what we know as there were five teenagers in the car, two were brothers, when a cousin, the other friends. family members came out to the scene last night. >> it is just terrible. pretty much your worst nightmare . something you never want to see from your child. >> reporter: the driver of the hunt accident was traveling southbound on foothill road when it crossed into the northbound lane, slammed into a powerboat--power pole and then a tree. they were all pronounced the dead at the scene. two others, a male and female were ejected, they were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. >> this particular roadway, it is a two lane country roadway. it is divided by a double yellow lane stretching. this particular portion of the road, there is a slight curve prior to the same. whether or not they played a part in the collision is still under investigation. it is a two lane country road. >> reporter: we got a chance to get closer to that same year

love. he is in the hospital. >> i really pray and hope his family can recover from this. this is definitely unacceptable. >> vallejo police have not announced whether or not you believe the shooting was an accident. while the government or multiple sugars is not known. the mayor says he has been in communication with the police chief about the shooting and they are working on a pilot production for that particular neighborhood. to oakland where police are investigate a shooting that injured four people at a holiday party. police were called to the scene just after 6:00 last night. when they arrived, they found three men and one woman had been shot. they were sent to the hospital in serious conditions. investigators have not commented on a possible motive and have not said if they know of any suspects. officers found a man unconscious in the street at east santa clara and south 24 street. he was rushed to the hospital

welcome back. we've got an update on the san jose church robbery we told you about on christmas morning. people have stepped up in a big way to help our lady of guadalupe church following the robbery of a donation last week. the gofundme page has raised more than $13,000 at last check. surveillance footage here shows two people entering a church distracting a cleaning lady. they simply walk off with a large collection box. the box was filled with money from selling holiday candles. the proceeds were going to be used to buy toys for the kids in the congregation at a celebration in january. a family in san francisco celebrated the return of their dog. we have surveillance video that shows a woman grabbing a french bulldog christmas afternoon in

billion a year in revenue. they say the impact of that money is felt across the entire bay area. >> more than 20 new state laws go into effect on the first day of the new year. one is the worker law, that is reclassifying some independent contractors, including ride- share drivers as employees. the loan was approved to make sure those workers are minimum wage and gave them paid sick days and health insurance. but, not all independent contractors like the law, including many freelance musicians and journalists. recently, independent truckers and journalists bowed several separate lawsuits to have that law overturned. the new law will increase minimum wage to $13 an hour for companies that have at least 26 employees. workers at smaller companies will see their minimum wage increase to $12 an hour. by 2023, all california workplaces, regardless of the number of employees will have to pay each employee at least $15 an hour. several bay area cities will start this year with the minimum wage up $15 an hour

happening today, the start of kwanzaa. the weeklong holiday honoring african heritage--there are events marking kwanzaa all across the bay area, including a celebration at san francisco city hall. some other sites include the museum of african dysphoria on mission street, kwanzaa runs until january 1st. cal state long beach professor created kwanzaa in 1966, to forge stronger bonds among people of african descent all around the world. the holiday embraces the principles of unity, purpose, and faith. tonight is the fifth night of hanukkah, which will be marked with the lighting of the candle of the menorah at san francisco's union square.

it began in 1955 to create the first public hanukkah celebration outside of israel. the ceremony begins with music at 5:00 tonight and the candle lighting is about half an hour later after that too many people in the bay area had to the movie theater on christmas day. they lined up to see "jumanji: the next level" and seeing movies on christmas becomes somewhat of a tradition after you open presents and eat. >> you know, it started off with christmas eve, partying until like 1:00 in the morning, 2:00 in the morning, sleeping in, getting breakfast, now i'm going to the movies with my girl . >> if that does not sound like the perfect day. moves at the big screen yesterday, little women, 1917, just mercy, and spies in the sky. firefighters in petaluma are being praised for rescuing a dog trapped in a fire. the homeowners later returned and broke a sliding glass door, they could not rescue the other

dog. firefighters arrived and found the second dog in the bathroom suffering from smoke inhalation. they fitted it with a special dog oxygen mask and saved his life. although nothing was clicking, investigators say the fire started on the stove. >> we've got video to show you out of australia where a police officer came to the rescue of a choking collar. video from the police station shows a couple rushing into the lobby there, holding their child that was not breathing. an officer runs out, takes the child, repeatedly hits the child on the back. after a few moments, the child eventually coughed something up that had been stuck in its throat. later in the video, the officer can be seen actually showing the parents how to perform the procedure. two months after taking over a vacant home, a homeless mother will be back in court today. >> coming up the eviction that says the real estate company that bought the home will not negotiate with it. take a look at whether that

morning's hearing for those women. >> reporter: there are a lot of them. the battle between the moms and the real estate company continues over this health. today, they will be in court for an eviction hearing. this comes after the owner of the property, wedgwood, a real estate investment company, serve them and eviction notice december 23rd. the women did not leave without a claim of possession. the court scheduled a hearing, expected at 9:00 this morning. here is some background. the working moms moved into the empty house with their kids in november. they said no one lived there for years and they needed a place to stay. wedgwood bought the house in july and evicted them. now, they are heading to court and facing eviction orders. this has been stressful for both sides, especially during the holidays. we spoke to one of the moms on christmas eve about their holiday plans. >> i want my children to know exactly what is going on, because it affects them directly. we do have a christmas tree,

and we are going to enjoy christmas here. >> the attorney representing the women says the oakland community land trust offered to buy the home and rent it to them. the attorney says the real estate company won't negotiate with them. a spokesperson with the company says this is a straight forward case of illegal entry and illegal occupation. wedgwood asked the james washington, former nfl super bowl champion to help. he is the founder of nonprofit shelter 37. washington said he will partner with wedgwood to fix the house and provide job training to at risk kids in oakland. all of that is on hold right now. >> our company has purchased this property to upgrade the property to make it better, to beautify the community and we are kind of limited because of the process of what has taken place here in oakland. >> the women want supporters to show up at the house on magnolia street at 9:00 a.mthe
