Live at Sounds of Sustainability is a Live album, that is by the Maravines. It is a recording of the Maravines performing live at the annual Sounds of Sustainability event, which was held in the Livingston Student Center at Rutgers University, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, on Wednesday, April 8th, 2015. It was released as an Audio download on April 9th, 2015.
The event began at 8: 00 P. m., in the Livingston Multipurpose Hall. The admission to the concert was free, and it was presented by the student organization One at Rutgers, who host an annual awareness concert on campus that features advocacy actions, and global sustainability goals such as ending World hunger, and saving the Environment. The event organizer was Shaila Huq, and the emcee was King Nilah. Opening the show shortly after the hour began, was the alternative folk rock band Cold Weather Company, followed by the Maravines, who began playing at 8:45 P.m. The third band was the folk group Little Rose, and closing the event was the hip hop group Cook Thugless.
The set list is nine songs, and it features one song from their first album, Pearl, three songs from their third album, Distelfink, and one unreleased song, titled "June's Best." The third song in the set is a cover version of the Radiohead song "Lucky," and the fourth song is a cover version of the John Denver song "Annie's Song." The first two songs in the set list, "Giants," and "Third Floor Statue" were not recorded. On Live at Sounds of Sustainability, Chris Lee plays the electric guitar, and he sings. Evan Pope sings, and he plays the drums.
The bands who performed were well established in the New Brunswick area, as each had one or more members which were either current or former Rutgers students. According to One at Rutgers' Tiffany Wu, the concert had "tapped into the local music scene," where each band had "brought in diversity of both sound and style." One at Rutgers also described the Maravines' set as "marvelous." The raffle for the event included a Tote, stickers, an illustrated and signed T-shirt, and the compact disc of Distelfink. There were approximately one hundred and fifty people in attendance at the concert, during the recording. They were seated at clothed dinner tables, facing the raised stage.
