A new, invasive mosquito is in San Diego, it is called Aedes aegypti. They are aggressive mosquitoes that may bite you during the day. They breed in standing water around your home like flower pot saucers, fountains, bird baths, water vases, sprinkler boxes, toys in the yard, rain barrels, even tree holes filled with water. Dumping standing water will prevent them from breeding and transmitting diseases. Wear long sleeves and pants or use mosquito repellents with DEET, oil of lemon eucalyptus, picaridin or IR3535. If you are getting bitten by mosquitoes during the day and see black mosquitoes with white stripes call the County of San Diego Vector ControlProgram, 858.694.2888 or SDFighttheBite.com.
