The Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast serves 7,000 girls in our region and works with 4,000 volunteers to bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to life. Rabies is a serious but preventable disease most often transmitted through the bite of a rabid animal. A critical piece of preventing the spread of rabies is making sure your animals are vaccinated. But in the event you encounter a rabid animal, Chesapeake Animal Services is ready to respond. If you have concerns about a potential rabies case please call the Health Department at 382-8672 during regular business hours, they work hand in hand with Chesapeake Animal Services.

This is also the last day to make any changes to your registration (for example if you've moved or changed names). First responders from right here in Chesapeake were among them, including Senior Firefighter Faith Gayheart. This year’s C-3 Engine Repair Camp was yet another success. Kids ages 12-17 learned engine repair, vehicle maintenance, and carpentry, all important skills for so many careers, including careers right here at the City of Chesapeake. One of the activities for the camp was a trip to the City Garage where all the City vehicles and equipment are cared for.

Plasser American builds Maintenance of Way equipment to maintain railroad tracks nationwide at its plant in South Norfolk. Through one of their community programs called “On the Right Track”, they provided $1000 to schools in the area – Truitt Intermediate, Thurgood Marshall Elementary, and G.W. Carver Intermediate.

Hampton Roads Sanitation District continues to test for COVID in our wastewater. They share that data with the Chesapeake Health Department (CHD), and the CHD in turn coordinates testing and vaccination events in those specific communities where a rise in COVID is detected. So within the span of a week, the CHD can respond to those neighborhoods.
