This year, the Spring Festival is celebrated in Asian cultures from Feb. 12 - Feb. 26.
Welcome the Year of the Ox with Miss Kitty, our longtime volunteer teacher for our Chinese Bilingual Storytime class.
Miss Kitty reads LUNAR NEW YEAR by Hannah Eliot, illustrated by Alina Chau. Along the way, Miss Kitty shares extra information, helpful pronunciations for language learners, and even a simple song.
We are grateful to the publisher Simon & Schuster for special permission to read this book and to make it available to our community until the end of March.
The library has also curated other resources to encourage everyone to explore the holiday. These resources include:
1) Storytime@Home Youth Services staff members developed a Storytime@Home theme around the Spring Festival across Asian cultures, with additional titles highlighting some of the best work by Asian authors, illustrators, and children.
Access the Storytime@Home activities and the list of recommended books and DVDs online: bit.ly/rrplSTatHome and use our Curbside Pickup service.
Or mask up, come in, and pick up the handout and browse the collection of books and DVDs. You'll find everything on top of the Easy DVD shelves.
2) A video from Panda Express Panda Express has been a longtime supporter of the library's preschool Lunar New Year celebration. Although we cannot celebrate together this year, we wanted to share the video we would have shared at the party: bit.ly/PandaExpressLunarNewYear2019
3) Craft activities We found these fun templates to create puppets and festive decorations for your #YearOfTheOx celebrations! bit.ly/RRPL-OxPrintables
