The City of Deltona has experienced tremendous commercial growth in three industries.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These industries are logistics, health services, and ecological tourism.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The logistics industry was formed around Portland Industrial Park, a 250 acre property bordering Interstate-4.
The first Park project is the recently opened Amazon logistics facility. This is a 1.4 million square-foot distribution center, initially creating over 500 jobs.
With 136 acres remaining in the park, Amazon has become the first float in the parade of companies coming to The Park.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There has been growth in the health services field … medical specialist offices, health service clinics, dentists, medical office buildings, and other medical services.
The crown for our health services is the new Halifax Health/Univ. of Florida Health – Medical Services Center. This is a new $150 million hospital, featuring an expanded ER, a multi-story hospital tower, and a 55,000 square-foot medical office building.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For ecological tourism, the city currently has nine recognized nature parks, each featuring … nature themed pathways … observation points for nature viewing … and scenic waterways.
The City of Deltona is the junction of world-class bicycling and pedestrian trails. Deltona was awarded a State of Florida Trail Town designation, with an official Blueways and Trails “Trail Head” designation for the Lakeshore EcoVillage, which is in development.
The city’s first blueways trail, the Butler Chain of Lakes Blueways Trail, was recently opened. It features multiple canoe, kayak, and paddleboard launching facilities, and almost 20 miles of waterway trail.
The cities ecological tourism push has
-increased visitation from outside the city… and
-increased the quality of life.
That’s quality of life for both our citizens and for companies looking to locate within the city … thus it’s a part of business attraction.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The city’s three tiered commercial strategy has been successful.
In this time of global pandemic we have…
-our ecological tourism (…the ability to enjoy nature trails and be
socially distanced),
-our health services, (…to provide care for those with illness}, and
-our major logistics development, (with logistics becoming one of the
nation’s major growth industries).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All this commercial growth has also incentivized residential growth. The city has almost 1,400 approved residential units planned, plus 741 entitled residential units in consideration. Much of this planned growth is high density.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As I’m fond of quoting Napoleon, he once said, “I would rather have my generals be lucky than be smart.”
Well, the City of Deltona … has been lucky … in making smart decisions.
