“L’assiette au Beurre” was published between 1901 and 1912 in Paris. For a total amount of 600 items, it is the first artists’ magazine ever. Every item is dedicated to a topic and the graphic structure clearly prevails over the textual one, which is reduced to the captions of the images. Half the pages are full-coloured. Moreover, the vast majority of his items have been assigned to a different artist every time. Among the collaborators we find some of the most important poster designers active at the time in Paris such as Jules Chéret, Leonetto Cappiello, Henri Jossot, but also artists like Felix Vallotton, Raymond Duchamp-Villon, Juan Gris, Ardengo Soffici or Kees van Dongen. Number 48 of 1902, the one entitled Crimes et Châtiments, was entirely realized with coloured lithography by Felix Vallotton.

“L’Assiette au Beurre”, pubblicata a Parigi tra il 1901 e il 1912 per complessivamente 600 numeri, è la prima rivista d’artista mai apparsa. Ogni numero è dedicato a un singolo tema e l’apparato grafico prevale nettamente su quello testuale, ridotto a semplice didascalia alle immagini. Metà delle pagine sono a colori, inoltre la gran parte dei suoi numeri è stata di volta in volta affidata a un artista diverso. Tra i collaboratori troviamo alcuni dei più importanti cartellonisti attivi al tempo a Parigi, come Jules Chéret, Leonetto Cappiello, Henri Jossot, ma anche artisti come Felix Vallotton, Raymond Duchamp-Villon, Juan Gris, Ardengo Soffici o Kees van Dongen. Il n. 48 del 1902, titolato Crimes et Châtiments, è stato interamente realizzato in litografia a colori da Felix Vallotton.
