ivan stanish - lead vocals, bass Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, Ivan Stanish began his music career playing a Tamburica, a 4-string, Croatian mandolin. As a self-taught 6-string guitarist, he pursued the tunes of Van Halen and Guns 'n' Roses. He was fortunate to have trusting friends to lend their electric guitars. However, this was not so fortunate for his friends, since at times these guitars were returned requiring major repairs. He then challenged himself to learn tunes by guitar soloists like Eric Johnson. In LA, Ivan was in several bands including Blue, Comma Freelie, and Hair Shirt and has performed at such LA venues as Al's Bar, 14 Below, Alligator Lounge, and Coconut Teaser. He has fulfilled several roles: a lead guitarist, bassist, lead vocalist, and back-up vocalist. Now a resident of the DC area, he is the front man for Candlestick Ashtray.
phil rossi - lead guitar, backing vocals Phil Rossi grew up in the small, waterside town of Fairfield, CT. His musical career began with the slide trombone. He soon became enamored with jazz and funk and learned a great deal about music and soul. At the same point he began feel the pull of rock and roll drawn by such guitarists as Billy Duffy and Dave Navarro. These influences proved to be profound. Shortly thereafter, he picked up the 6-string guitar and has not put it down since. He played guitar, keyboards, and shared the lead vocal role for the indie rock band, Something Fuzzy (95-99). He performed as trombonist and backing vocalist in the NYC Ska band, the Radiation Kings (97-2000). They took the New York Tristate area by storm, playing at venues including Toad's Place, the Wetlands, the Globe, the Cooler, and Coney Island High. For the latter portion of college, he pursed several solo projects including the largely electronic, Spirit Dance, and the collaborative project, Warmer Than December
ben mellott - drums, percussion Born in Fairfax, VA, Ben Mellott's musical career began with the viola and piano. By high school, he was playing bass for his first rock band. As the story goes, this band's drummer left his kit at Ben's place to avoid lugging equipment every week. Naturally, with only a flight of stairs in between, Ben was drawn to playing the drums. It soon became an addiction. Although growing as a drummer, Ben continued to play bass for the hardcore/punk band, Positive State (93-96). After the lead singer's departure, Ben and the drummer switched roles and formed the melodic, hardcore band, Churner (97-02). The musical style of Ben's drumming is best described as a stew of punk, rock, and hardcore. Being on various tours, Ben has had the experience to travel across the US as a musician and roadie. In June of 2002, Ben recorded a demo at his studio, Nothing but Noise, for Stanish and Rossi. Jokingly, Ben commented that if the two were ever looking for a drummer, he'd help out. Upon the untimely departure of their first drummer, they called Mellott's bluff. He has been drumming for Candlestick Ashtray ever since.
