The quartet from Long Island, NY consists of Carl Esperance (vocals, guitar), Charlie LaRocco (guitar), Dave Anderson (bass) and Scott Ingenito (drums). Motorway To Roswell's emotion-packed songs are only amplified by their fierce live performances. Carving out a niche for themselves with other bands in the New York area, Motorway To Roswell hopes to bring heavy pop rock music back into the mainstream consciousness. Don't let their boyish looks and young ages fool you - Lisa Archambault of the Hofstra Chronicle wrote, "the moment they burst through the speakers, Motorway To Roswell make it known that they are to be taken seriously - that they are not just another local band."
Formed in the summer of 1998, Motorway To Roswell was actually a brainstorm between longtime friends Carl Esperance and Charlie LaRocco. The idea was to form a band consisting of members whom they considered to be the best players from the bands they remembered from high school (themselves included, of course). After the first rehearsal, an undeniable chemistry was there and Motorway To Roswell has progressed ever since.
Their debut EP, In Between the Frequencies, was recorded during the final quarter of 1998. A seven song CD, it provided an introduction to what Motorway To Roswell was going to be. Stevan Spacely of the Long Island Voice pronounced their debut as "phenomenal... by successfully combining the driving rhythms of emo-core and the sonic experimentation of space rock, Motorway To Roswell transcends both."
For their next studio venture, Motorway To Roswell turned to a staple of the New York hardcore scene, Chris Gibson, who has recorded such bands as Quicksand, Civ and Shades Apart. Gibson admitted that he has never recorded a band like Motorway To Roswell before, describing them as "raging pop" - a mixture of strong melodic hooks and teenage angst reminiscent of when grunge rock first broke into the scene. Eleven tracks were recorded at Upstart Studios and Gibson claimed without blinking an eye, "This is the most important release to come out of this studio." Strong words from a man who has been recording bands for more than ten years.
Listening to Motorway To Roswell can cause a gambit of emotions - they sound so familiar, yet like nothing you have heard before. Simple and complex, confused and certain, angst-ridden and lovesick - Motorway To Roswell is all of these things.
