Do you want to see 56th Street reconstructed between I-465 (Caito Drive) and Ashton Drive?
Most streets within the City of Lawrence are under our jurisdiction. However, thoroughfares, like 56th Street, are a shared responsibility between City of Indianapolis and Lawrence. Lawrence is responsible for general maintenance. However, it is the City of Indianapolis's responsibility to rehab/reconstruct the road when it reaches the end of its lifetime. 56th Street is failing and can no longer be maintained with simple pot hole patching. This section is really bad, and getting worse.
Indianapolis does have this project in the capital plan to reconstruct 56th between Caito Dr (near 465) and Ashton Dr, and the plan has been under design since 2019. The 56th Street project was set to go to bid last year, but was put on hold with no reason stated. It got scheduled to bid again this October and earlier this month, we were informed again that the plan is being put on hold until 2026. Again, no reason was given. This section of 56th street won’t last until then.
So what can you do?
