aAirial is the project of a music producer from Nancy, living in Paris, who has since 2008 released music on labels such as Breathe, Inrecs, Laridae, Kahvi, Rednetic, Sutemos, Touched and Mahorka. His music is influenced by classical romanticism and emotional electronica, a mix of emotions that define his style very well. A minimalist approach retains only the essentials, providing a better connection with the listener. The full-length "Wanderings" builds on and completes the musical...

Following the steps of his debut album "These Elephants", Mathieu St-Pierre re-engages with the concept of cyberspace as a means to explore his ambient and drone compositional approaches via the pool of data that is the internet. As a result, his second album and Mahorka debut "Online Messages in Cardboard Boxes" was constructed solely by scavenging the net for sound textures and later altering and arranging them to create unique soundscapes. So as much as there was lots of...

IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH GRASPING THE DIVISION OF LABOUR BETWEEN MAN AND MACHINE "There are obviously various musical directions and techniques going on in this album. A variety of sound sources and instruments are introduced. Abandoning specialization and sliding towards universality produces thriving musical diversity but also easily ends up to the dilettantism, which I have not been that much afraid of. How many instruments I really played on this album? The answer is unambiguous. I...

Despair is good. Despair can be the nadir of one life and the starting point of an ascent into another, better one.  ― Dean Koontz  Exactly two years after embracing us in the weightlessness of its raw noise ambient Deffektegg is reaching for our throats again. His chokehold is stronger and more intoxicating than ever. If so far Deffektegg’s music felt as if you are observing a dead body becoming one with the black waters of the sea, Nadir is like a subconscious self-immolation. For 50...

Long time ago, in the relatively small Black Sea coastal city of Varna, Julian Kalchev a.k.a. Virtually J became a kind of local pioneer and an inspiration for a whole generation, being the first to explore ways to compose and produce electronic music programmed, edited, played on a PC. He's been important part of the scene since then, contributing, for example, to the essential VA series "Kokaku" on Jisatsuken. With his last LP released 20 years ago (yes, in 2001) and after having...

"Fame is an Addiction" sounds like a cassette you found while walking on the beach, half burried in the sand, case slightly warped by the heat of the sun, little pebbles and bits of seashells embedded inside, tape loose and almost melted. You rescue it, clean it up, spool it in, and when you play it you discover that the noise of the sea waves somehow got imprinted onto it and melded with the music. Every tune is deep within its own comfortable bed of noise, each sound treading...

MUSIC FOR PEOPLE WITH NO WORK, FAMILY OR INTERNET "A collection of pieces from the last 10 years gathered around the idea of listening as a state of trance. Listening without distraction, without measuring time, without hurry. Clearing the mind, a bit of melancholy, an endless loop, a hovering thought, urban meditation somewhere in the suburbs. The music of Encased in Amber tells it's stories through an intricate mesh of melodies and texture. Described as downtempo, ambient, and dreamy, Encased in Amber puts forth the concept that each time a piece of music is written it crystallizes what was felt and processed in that moment of time, like a fossil caught in amber.  The 'Parallel Worlds' project is intended as an audio-visual experience. The artwork of Jeroen Advocaat sets the scene with themes of distance, longing, and the...

Usually a front cover reveals much of the music, but even the artwork concept here is kept a bit hidden in the booklet. Also the songs remain somewhat introverted. On "The Heart of Misery", starting with cafe talk on the background, it is as if she has several thoughts, but does not want to use them as a form of communication. Hidden is the message, while using comprehensible words, like a regret of a goodbye or a metaphor projected in a world where comfort can't be found. The song...

Secret Silence covers a wide stylistical range from abstract soundscapes to song-like tracks. 1: Common quantum physicists' interpretation and statement is that there is no such thing as matter and what we all call matter, in reality is energy. The whole universe is energy, frequencies, vibrations. What we observe is energy vibrations that are slowed down to a level that is perceivable by our senses and sensors. It all exists thanks to forces which make particles quiver and yet keep the whole system together. Many spiritual or metaphysical things in essence have always been just physics...

Stèv (Stefano Fagnani) is a multi-instrumentalist and producer from Italy. His music is made using both electronic and acoustic instruments (along with some occasional strange sounds created from sampled noises of common objects) and covers a wide range of styles, from experimental beats to minimalist compositions, drawing inspirations from everything. "Windmills EP" is Stèv's first official work: 4 tracks of organic / electro-acoustic experimentation with some soft Trip-Hop,...

Baba llaga are: Miguel A. García (xedh, valvula antirretorno), Raul Dominguez (armadillo concreto), Daniel Llaria (bujero) and Itziar Markiegi (teta fx). They gathered together to do some fine experimental/industrial improvised sound with a lot of emphasis on the visual aspect of the performance when they play live. It's not the 'man with a laptop' outfit, it's a real, living band. Their first release "El ultimo viaje de Vasilissa" ("The last travel of Vasilissa") is...

"Fabien Robbe and myself have been involved in several projects together since 2015, but this is our formal debut as a duo. It began as good, clean fun. Fabien piled up gear in his van and drove all the way from Brittany to my blessed shack in the suburbs of Paris, by then home of Improvising Beings. We assembled a monster electronic studio for a few days. I will now list the instruments to get rid of that matter: ARP 2600, ARP Sequencer, EMS Synthi E, Farfisa VIP 233, Kurzweil K-2500,...

Amotken was Born in Mexico under the name of Gabriel and, as of 2014, a 20 years old human, who experiments with sound in order to create feelings and thoughts, re-create situations and bring an experience to the listener.  The debut album Kuro (黒) was finished in February 2014 and released on Mahorka in November 2014. All written, recorded and produced by Gabriel, as an attempt to experiment with the edge of darkness and light (Shirokuro), Noise and Silence.  The cover artwork photo is by...

Created for a love of all that is Dark Ambient, British Electronic producer Tony Young (Autoclav1.1) and German Industrial/Noise powerhouse Andreas Davids (xotox); first bore fruits of their labour, with their self-titled, monolithic debut in 2018. 2019, continues the story with "Second". A new chapter of colossal, brooding ambient; where light is slowly crushed by shade, within a multi-faceted arena of sound. From the nightmarish journey through dying forests and the ruined vestiges...

Experiential composer Austin Rockman paints upon the canvas of silence with seemingly supernatural projections of sound. These amalgamations point towards tones of an almost uncertain origin and are very much characterized by a certain place in time. His debut album 'Plum God' represents a transitory state. An uncertainty, which brings along states of confusion, exhaustion, intensity.. coexisting within these emotions resides hope and the inevitable beauty and gravity of consciousness. We are...

shadhavar, an album written, composed and performed by yourai represents his first multitrack record made exlusively for mahorka. „again, refusing to ask the electronic machines for help, yourai sets his lands of vocal expressions between rhythm pleasure and raw experimantation, influenced by throat singers, freak hop and holy minimalism. the concept of shadhavar is coded in a story hidden in the verses of inunderstandable lyrics and vocal audio soundscapes. it is a drawing of a specific...

"Music for Blank Film is the result of several years of recording, deconstructing and remixing a number of original themes. The music was conceived with the notion that the listener would construct mental imagery to coincide with the varying soundscapes presented, hence the title. Instrumentation includes synthesizers, guitar, trombone, percussive and noise elements. Although the suite of pieces begins with quite a dark ambient and sombre tone, eventually the mood lifts, so that by the...

Marco Pianges uses sine waves, concrete sounds and white noise as his source material since '97, searching for "personal melodic sonorous" forms. Same year he plays at III Congress of Electronic Indipendent Music and at the Live Ixem08 Festival, both in Palermo. At the Volcano Film Fest he introduces his first...

“Tick tock tick. Time trickles away softly and time flows off hard, steadfast as ever. Time travel might make you dream off but you cannot stop time or turn back, even if that is your dearest wish. The hourglass is running, at that steady pass, water is flowing, an ongoing stream, and everything we do or did is in the past. Time is ticking and will not stop, not for anyone, not ever ...” Unlike on his debut EP on Mahorka - a trip through abstract territories, blending dissonants and rough...

DR (Dominic Razlaff) is a sound artist from Germany. He uses synthesizers, acoustic instruments (Ukulele, Cavaquinho, Guitar), field recordings, tape loops and granular synthesis to create soaked in melancholy ambient / drone soundscapes. A bit after debuting on Mahorka with his highly acclaimed collaboration album with Blanket Swimming ("The Lightning Gallery") he found an old sketch, unfinished Ukulele piece, which was a little bit boring recording, but had something special to it....

Mahorka resident Renzo Peressi (Venezuela) delivers another EP with his Abluonihil sound. We can describe it as micro and huge, harsh and musical at the same time. On the brink of being irritating the ear it is actually stimulating the brain. Now you can download our new release 'Abluonihil - Nova'.

It is the third time that an "Eastern Depths" compilation encompasses a unique and rich pallette of deep abstract electronics from Bulgaria. After the first two volumes, released on the Cold Fiction label, USA, the herepresented third edition is (proudly) 100% Bulgarian - from all the artists, through the curation and mastering, to the cover artwork photo and design. And it comes as no surprise that it was arranged to be released with the Bulgarian netlabel-pioneers Mahorka, which...

'Sleep Studies' was a creative process spanning over 100 days from August 13th to November 21st, 2020. Inspired by themes like sleep, dreams and nightmares, one track per day was produced and uploaded to YouTube with an accompanying video. "Working on this project we strived to find our way back to a means of production based on spontaneity and also allowed us to distance ourselves from the final product by removing afterthought and overproduction anxiety." 'Selected Sleep Studies' is...

The complimented artists are Ivan Bachev, Skylined, Res, Tkrst, Florian Fernbacher, Yourai, Lukas Scholler, Chefkirk, Aneff, Tilia and Miuk.
