Mah-jongg has been part of American life since the 1920s, but how did a game from China become a notable feature of Jewish American culture? Curator Melissa Martens Yaverbaum interviews Annelise Heinz, the author of Mahjong: A Chinese Game and the Making of Modern American Culture. Together they explore the Jewish American roots of the game, as well as its complicated and unpredictable journey.
