Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a widespread worldwide pandemic, caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), is more severe than severe acute respirtory syndrome (SARS) in 2003. As of June 1st, 2020, over 6,150,320 cases of COVID-19 are reported in over 200 countries and territories, leading to approximately 372,130 deaths.Currently, there is no specific drug for COVID-19 and vaccines for this deadly virus are still under development. WHO-China Joint Mission fully confirms the success of “China’s model” against COVID-19 in the report. In fact, one particular power in “China’s model” is acupuncture of Traditional Chinese Medicine. To apply “non-pharmaceutic measures”—the external technique of traditional Chinese medicine better, Guidance for acupuncture and moxibustion interventions on COVID-19(Second edition) was issued by China Association of Acupuncture–Moxibution. The research shows that the characteristics of acupuncture in the treatment of acute infectious diseases are not to directly target the cause of infectious diseases, but to improve the body's resistance and promote and regulate the human immune function after acupuncture. Even though acupuncture is used in the treatment of novel coronavirus in China, there is no definite evidence to prove the effectiveness of acupuncture. This study aims at summarizing the current evidence for acupuncture treatment of COVID-19.
