Radia

Radia is an international, informal network of radio stations who produce, share and broadcast radio art works. Since its inception in 2005 it has promoted a weekly radio art programme, each station taking turns in asking an artist of its choice to produce a radio art piece to be broadcast on all network stations. Besides this ongoing effort, Radia stations also participate and produce radio art programmes in the context of festivals and other contexts. More can be found about Radia at http://r...

For this recording we have dedicated ourselves to the Lo-Fi Manifesto, which provided the basis for a live recording and jam session. The LofiDogma was published by a Swiss cultural foundation and is inspired by the Danish film “Dogma95”. Nine articles severely restrict the use of technology in music recording and create the charme of home-recorded music. We have adapted the manifesto, shortened it to 8 articles and explicitly allowed a synth. The rules are: The piece must be recorded in...

Mortal Oscillatory Rates This radiophonic piece is inspired by the work of Royal Raymond Rife  (1888 - 1971). He was a  scientist, engineer and inventor now considered 'The Nikola Tesla of the Medical World'. In 1931 he built the Universal Microscope achieving optical magnifications of over 30,000 times.  It enabled him to observe microorganisms and viruses in a living state. Rife believed that if he could discover the vibrational frequencies at which disease-causing microorganisms vibrated,...

In 2008/2009 – I was in my late twenties but felt like in late puberty – I worked on a collection of fixed sound pieces that I would describe as precisely composed „field poems“. These LAMENTS (as a half-ironic reference to Monteverdis famous Lamento d’Arianna) are based on somewhat classical field recording material (daily life, urban soundscapes, noise) and on the other hand extremely private, spoken and often sobbed confessions I would nowadays assume to be evidence of a mental...

GOYA 275 Francisco de Goya es considerado uno de los más grandes artistas de la historia, considerado como el padre del  Arte Contemporáneo. Este año 2021 se conmemora el 275 aniversario del nacimiento de este aragonés universal. Vera Wyse Munro (1897-1966) was a pioneering New Zealand ham radio broadcaster, improviser, and sonic experimenter. Her primary media were amateur radio broadcasts, Morse poetry, and sono-topographical scores. Via her broadcasts, which were frequently received by amateur radio operators as far afield as the United States and Europe, Munro initiated some of the earliest telematic performances, in which she would perform prepared violin in structured improvisations with other musicians...

I based the idea on a very personal "return to self" which was symbolically but also quite literally connected to the sea as a place of my childhood, fascination with its sonic qualities and colour. This radio piece is imagined as a personal search to reconnect again to a place that for me feels like home (a physical place and a mind space). What do invisible sounds fancy? by Philippe Petit « One morning when I woke up I heard a sound that I could not recognize, consequently I wondered about its origin, its existence and its possible correspondences. Our perception of a sound or a music is not the same if we can locate its source, see how it is produced, by what, by whom and therefore I wanted to compose a soundtrack retracing the imaginary of what the sounds we do not hear would do if meeting those which are invisible to us. How...

“The Borderguard's path” was recorded in the Sumava forest between the Czech and German borders on the 2nd of January 2021. I set out to explore the sounds that can be heard inside some of the 1st and 2nd World War bunkers in the area, which are said to total around 2000 in number, most of them forgotten and still to be re-discovered. After an hour walk through a snow covered path I managed to find and crawl into to one of these bunkers. It was a very damped and dark space, where the only...

In the spring of 2018, the temporary lesbian bar Mothers & Daughters opened in Brussels. This opening brought together a community in deficit. In deficit of place, of celebration and of collective rituals. In the wake of this event whose near disappearance made its presence all more precious, Severine Irène V. Janssen X BNA-BBOT recorded testimonies, conversations and sounds. These recordings took place in the bar and outside the bar and resulted in this radiophonic piece. BNA-BBOT is a...

Ma‘am, there is no  such thing in reality Operetta for madams, violin and electronica by Nina Dragičević. Nina Dragičević‘s composition “Ma‘am, there is no such thing in reality” opens up with a question. Marge Alpen Adria The area crossed by the Alpe Adria Trail has always been a region of borders from ice age to cold war, but also of connecting paths of different kinds: military, animal, railway ones. Through some research and walking, we investigated elements of dis / connection on the Alpe Adria Trail, collecting traces, documentation and creating some spontaneous interventions on the path. We are two Italian and one Austrian artists from different backgrounds such as music, fine arts, game...

Show 429: Fragments from a Deviant by Luka Prinčič (Radio Student/Ljubljana) Posted on   2013/06/17   by   student I always liked radio. It offers a special mental, bodily and emotional space. At least it used to. Things are so much different these days. It seems it is so hard to find intimacy, time and attention to focus on a single channel. It seems like we are tuned to many different frequencies at once and we’re having an open recording device on each of them. Do we ever go back and...

Sounding Sambatas   Many other walled towns have been razed to the ground by mighty movements of the earth, and many cities, citizens and all, have sunk to the bottom of the sea. – Titus Lucretius Carus, De Rerum Natura Sounding Sambatas riffs off of SAMBATAS STAGINGS, an experimental performative project that drew on the imagery of urban ruin to find new ways of using the public space in times of social distancing. It took form as a series of process-oriented, collectively produced...

Mediascapes heard from radios suspended in the theatre, broadcast on 4 watts FM. Originally designed for pirate radio broadcast as part of a youth theatre/media and democracy project in Toronto, Canada, spring 2006. I created a series of pieces to serve as mediascapes surrounding actors in a physical theatre, reflecting on themes suggested by participating high school students (ages 16-18) such as power, commercialized culture and media saturation, justice, and freedom. The pieces were heard...

“Tanker” de François Martig FR/ Installation, installation sonore, documentaire radio ou photographique, le travail mouvant de François Martig trouve une forme qui s’adapte aux contextes, à la géographie et aux territoires rencontrés. Il s’agit toujours de sous-ligner ceux-ci plutôt que de s’y imposer. Ses préoccupations artistiques suivent un fil rouge qu’il appelle Robinsonhotel. Ce titre générique, pour un projet à long terme, interroge le paysage comme espace social,...

ATC Mix is a compilation of interactions between pilots and air traffic controllers from airports across the globe. The conversations range from controllers directing traffic at Dublin, Rio de Janiero and Barbados Airports to UFO sightings, an air force pilot ejecting from his burning jet and Air Force One taxiing out of a closed Manchester airport. This show is  about the sounds of the radios used between the planes and the towers as much as the transmitted conversations. The human voices,...
