Scott Joplin  (Texarkana, 24.11.1868 - New York, 01.04.1917): American pianist and ragtime composer. Started as a musician in his teens, later studied music at George Smith College (Sedalia). He wrote 44 rags, a ragtime ballet and two operas: A Guest of Honour (lost, confiscated in 1903 due to non-payment of bills) and Treemonisha (1910). DGG released Treemonisha on record in 1992.
