Night Of The Long Knives
Ernst Rohm Chief Of Staff S.A spoke with Herman Rauschning in 1933:
" Adolf is a swine... he only associates with the reactionaries now... His old friends arn't good enough for him. Getting matey with the East Prussian generals. They're his cronies now...are we revolutionaries or arn't we ? The generals are a lot of old fogies. They will never have a new idea...I don't know where he's going to get his revolutionary spirit from. They're the same old clods, and they'll certainly lose the next war"
{ Rohm had received a telegram from Hitler in 1930, inviting him back to Munich from Bolivia to become Chief Of Staff SA
to bring a form of unity to the organization,
perhaps Rohm would have been wise to
discard the message into the nearest bin.
He would not have then ended up 4 years later in cell 474 of Stadelheim Prison being executed by the SS.
Hitler being a bit of a softy for old relationships, instructed his S.S men to leave a pistol with one bullet in the cell so Rohm could do the correct thing and shoot himself
{ no more than one bullet as you can only be so generous }
But Rohm did not do the correct thing for his former friend, standing in the centre of the cell stripped to his waist.
So did Rohm exit the scene, not allowing anybody to call him a war criminal, as he was not around to witness the departure of National Socialism from history.
As Hitler sat on his sofa within his bunker on May 7 1945 alongside his new bride Eva, I wonder if he had a moment of clarity from the cocktail of drugs in his brain, where did it go so wrong ? as Hitler's hand holding his 7.65 mm Walther pistol drifted up to his left temple, might it have been when he turned his back on the SA in 1934 ?
turning on the veterans of the Great War,
and instead listening to the likes of ex chicken farmer Himmler.
