Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad class S-4-A 4000, named AEOLUS, at Burlington, Iowa on an unknown date in 1937, photographer unknown, print from Don Gruber, Chuck Zeiler collection. The name AEOLUS is from a Greek god, the Keeper of the Winds. The Burlington had adopted a Greek mythology theme by choosing Zephyr for their trains, the last word in passenger service. Some of you may wonder about the name, and the following is from the Burlington Route Historical Society's Bulletin 14,...

Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 4-6-0 Class K-2 637 at Galesburg, Illinois on April 5, 1959, Kodachrome by unknown photographer, Chuck Zeiler collection.  Number 637 was on display at the Galesburg roundhouse during a fan trip.  Although there is a bit of smoke coming from the stack, the locomotive was not under steam.  Oil soaked waste was tossed down the stack to create the illusion, as evidenced by the scorch marks at the lower front of the smokebox.
