The truth is out there, or is it? What is Truth? As you might imagine, if I had the answer to this question, many people would be knocking on my door. Putting witticisms aside, contemplation of this question has been the focus of philosophy, law, science, theology, and many more areas of study, for thousands of years. Beginning with the World’s earliest known philosophers such as Aristotle, right up to this moment in history, there exist volumes of philosophical contemplation on the subject of “truth.”
Truth, regardless of the field or subject to which it is sought, is difficult to pin down. But, why do you suppose this is the case? Isn’t truth simply the truth? Hasn’t it been said that truth needs no explanation, that it stands on its own? Unfortunately, not always and not precisely. Venturing into the reasons why defining “truth” is so difficult encompasses the entire history of humankind.
