judge jeanine: doctor, i want to move on to your position is the head of hud. i want to let my viewers know what the federal government is doing with the moratorium on foreclosures can you explain that to my viewers? >> what is the most important thing that people have financially for their home? while they are being terrified and trying to keep themselves and their family safe, the last thing we want them to worry about is whether they're going to lose their house. because of payments that a been lagging. so the president authorized us to go ahead and place a 60 day moratorium on foreclosures and evictions that were in progress as well as those that may occur over the next 60 days. judge jeanine: will there be a reinvestment doctor? i only have a few seconds left but people have trouble paying their mortgage where there is no foreclosure, what is the federal government offering? >> we asked before engine forbearance for the services we want them to look at the whole cascade of options that they have before they would even think about eviction or foreclosure. j

with regard to your other half as hud director, one of the thing that is a great concern in the city of new york is the homeless population. in los angeles and california, san francisco as well, there has been someone who has died of it in new york city, the first person to die from covid-19 -- how do you keep it from spreading through the homeless population in the environment they are living in? >> that's something i have been concerned about for a long time. if you go back and look at some of my interviews from six months ago or nine months ago, i talk about what would happen if we had an epidemic if we don't do something about this homelessness problem? to their credit, many of the governors have stepped up and we sent information on what to do and how to prepare in case somebody does contract the disease. you have to work that out with your state health agencies before it happens. it's not a crisis of the time that it happens and that has been done by many states and i give them great credit for that. we also have provided a lot of information on hud.gov . there's plenty of info

if you live in federal housing, hud has put a freeze on evictions right now. as far as banks or private companies, the president said the other day, i think landlords are going to be taking it easy. he's saying they're going to take it easy but there's no federal regulation put in place. we recommend that every person go to their own state's website, type in your state and you can see what your unemployment benefits are or you can go to benefi benefits.gov and it lays out benefits afforded to people in different categories, but it depends on your city and state. you cannot assume we're all in this crisis and i'm covered. >> this is a big story, workers at instagram, whole foods, where do these pushes stand right now? >> well, we're seeing it happen. it was widely reported yesterday that amazon fired a guy named christopher smalls from their staten island warehouse. he was the person who is organizing strikes. the organizers have said there have been 50 amazon strikes across the country. the company said it's been more like 15. while he was fired, the company s
