our crews are in downtown oakland on 14th and oakland working on a story when a couple of suspects jumped out of the car, tried to rob our crew of equipment. kevin was there. kevin, the shooter. he jumped into action. and unfortunately he was shot twice. we understand that he was pretty bad where the oakland police officers. they came to the scene. they saw. they recognize that he was one of them. they put him in the back of a a squad car and rushed him to highland hospital where he underwent surgery and james it rocked the media in the bay area on saturday because we all thought he was on them. and i found out on saturday morning that he had died. i couldn't believe it because i actually texted him on friday saying if you need anything, i'm there for you. now i know why he did not respond. here's video or picture, i should say, provided to us by the oakland police department of what they believe is the getaway car. it's a 2004, 2, 2008 acura tl with that. no license plate in the front. there's a sunroof as well. hopefully you will recognize it and let investigators know, by the way, guys

it's been a violent month in the city of oakland. there have been at least 9 shooting since november. first grant lotus here in the studio for us to. >> break it all down grant ken and catherine, the shootings have increased year to year from. >> 2020 to 2021 and overall you of gun violence up 33% this year compared to last. and as dan just mentioned in his report, the 2 most recent shootings occurred last night and earlier this morning, the victim from the shooting near lake merritt has passed away. the shooting happened last thursday on lakeshore avenue. officials found a woman who had been shot. they helped get her hospital before that on november 10th a woman was injured in a shooting downtown right near the fox theater. she is still recovering a concert at the fox said to be canceled that night because of the violence. then police responded to a shooting. later that night around 9.30. 97th avenue near be street. the victim there also taken to the hospital at last check that victim still in critical condition. back on saturday. n

we start this sunday night with more violence on the streets of oakland in just the last few hours, oakland police tell kron 4 news that a man was shot and killed in the city's latest homicide while simply trying to stop a car from bring broken into opd says the shooting happened around 3.30 this afternoon at lake merritt. investigators say that man who was the victim of a car break-in himself was trying to stop yet another one from happening when he was shot that man later died at the hospital. the shooter fled the scene. the death now the city's 127th homicide of 2021 tonight at $10,000 reward is being offered for information in the case. oakland police, meanwhile, are also searching for answers in the murder of kron. 4 news security guard kevin the shooter was shot while on assignment with one of our reporters on wednesday. he died from his injuries yesterday morning, kron four's amanda hari live for us tonight in the newsroom after talking with oakland leaders about the impact of his last even those who didn't even know kevin. now responding meant. >> yes and every single person i spoke

mayor in oakland. rebecca kaplan says the city is already facing a recruiting crisis. and quite frankly has trouble retaining employees with the current testing rules in place. the proposal will now go before the full city council and and approval. there would do away with testing for pot while you're off the job. the justice department, meanwhile, is filing a lawsuit against uber for charging what they call wait time fees to passengers who have disabilities the suit alleges the rideshare company is violating the americans with disabilities act by charging disabled riders fees as their drivers wait for them to get it. uber does charge an extra fee for all passengers to take longer than 2 minutes to enter the rideshare car once it arrives at the destination, the federal government once the court to order uber to change its weight fee policy. also train its staff and drivers and pay monetary damages to everyone who's been impacted. uber says they have been in active discussions with the justice departmen
