[applause] >> that would be the first time that people would be waiting to hear me speak. [laughter] i am just happy to be here today because that means we found a solution to a set of problems that threaten the viability and vitality of this wonderful institution. more than anything, i am pleased that collectively we have gone to that point. i will talk through some of the high points in the deal. fundamentally, this is a complicated negotiation agreement that involves five different parties, very quickly worked out under challenging circumstances and executed this morning. some are still subsequent to board approval, approval of the founders of the board of directors and others, but the deal is set. what it's fundamentally does -- of the $120 million in outstanding debt that the foundation formally held, lenders have forgiven $2

supervisor wiener: i would like to thank supervisors mar and carmen chu about the ada. we had a similar situation, so i would like to work with you on that hearing and any possible proposals growing from that. i would like to request two hearings today. the first relates to the church line. supervisor dufty would refer to it as is a problem child, and i have now inherited the problem child -- referred -- would refer to it as his problem child. it is an important line. and yet, it is a continuing problem. its reliability is poor. it is not, for reasons i do not understand, properly tracked by gps in terms of being able to use next muni, and this is a problem that does not seem to and, so i am asking the mta to come and talk about the reliability of the situation and as well as what they are doing to make it more reliable and what future possible changes to the line can be made to make it more usable. i will be meeting with supervisor avalos and look forward to working closely with them and with mta. the second hearing i am requesting has to do with this boards preservati

i am very honored to join supervisor chu, a supervisor carmen chu, eric mar, and jane kim, and supervisor campos, supervisor mirkarimi, malia cohen is here as well. it is a wonderful occasion to celebrate our chinese new year at city hall. i want to welcome all of you here. i have been thinking about my first month on this job. as you know, i try not to follow the speech sometimes that i scripted for. i tried to speak what is on my mind. the thought here is that it is no longer a lunar new year celebration just for our chinese community. what our community now has to offer is really expanding the family to all of these other diverse groups in san francisco. that is what makes this so wonderful. we can share what this joyous occasion means and connect with all the other families of the city, whether african american, latino families, russian families, or all of the some groups of our asian families, it is what makes the city very special. if i have seen anything the first 30 days of this inaugural apartment that was historic redone by our board of supervisors, it allowed me this special pr

commissioner campos: commissioner carmen chu. commissioner chu: the switch back data, is that for a particular line or overall? >> this is just in january before the 14 mission. if i may, since you asked, there were 203 switchbacks in january on the light rail lines. as soon as the letter is signed off, i will be sending you a report on one of the things that we committed to do in the package that we forwarded to you. a report of switchbacks by line, where they occurred, the time, and whether or not there was a vehicle within five minutes behind that to accommodate passengers who were being switched back. january is done and i will be forwarding it to you this week. >> and that is -- commissioner campos: that is for all the light rail lines? >> yes, correct. the distribution is in the letter, as i recall, the n line and j line that had the most switchbacks in january. i am pleased to say, having met the conditions in the policy, we were able to pull that pretty thoroughly, in terms of having a vehicle right behind it, certainly w

. >> supervisor carmen chu is first. supervisor kim. supervisor wiener. supervisor wiener: thank you. i have several introductions today. the first is i am requesting that the controller conduct an economic impact study with support from the entertainment commission on entertainment and night life in san francisco to determine the size and scope of this industry, the number of jobs it creates in san francisco, the taxes that it generates for the city, the rhythm rigid the tourism it brings to the city. there has been a lot of discussion in recent years about entertainment and night life in san francisco, and it often comes up in a very reactive way in terms of policy making. something bad happens. someone gets shot. there is a crowd control situation. something terrible happens, and we then scramble and say, "how do we address this?" what i want to do is take a step back so that in the future when we are making public policy that impacts entertainment and night life, we know exactly what we're dealing with so that we know the size, we know the economic co

along with supervisor carmen chu and david chiu, and i'm sorry for the delay but we're honored with the presence of a veteran of the world war ii and korean war. he has been honored in a documentary that aired last year but it's a recent film. the -- he's the subject of the documentary as the first asian -american commissioned officer in the united states marine corps. he's dedicated immense resolution and dedication to his country in the korean war in the bat. of chosin reservoir. he's also documented for bravery and heroism. growing up in sacramento, though he is san francisco born, major kurt lee was a proud american citizen eager to enlist in the military ate young age. he joined 9 reserve officers corps in high school. we also have proud members of the american legion post including commander ron lee and many others here with us today and roger dong, the founder of the chinese-american heroes project and nelsonan lum, the vice chairman of the war museum and as a platoon leader, main kurt lee in the korean war fought in the decisive battle of chosun reservoir against the advancing c

early in january, a supervisor -- in january, supervisor carmen chu -- many of her businesses have had drive-by lawsuits. she convened our office, the mayor's office on disability -- she convened us to work together on a program, these materials you have. a press conference was held on january 13, a lot toward the chinese media to get this information out. there are many businesses in her district who were served with lawsuits. since then, which i am very pleased about, our office has also been requested to come and make presentations. we have now made presentations to the noe valley merchants association, the bayview merchants association, and have been invited to the petreo hill merchants association. last week, i met with the neighborhood economic development associations. if you are not familiar with the renaissance center, the small business development center, these are organizations that do entrepreneurial training. the city funds them. what we have said to them is that the supervisors and the city have an expectation now that we want you to be training the business entrepreneur
