this is not an issue of whether the owners have to be lgbt or not. i am not quite sure why that is to continually came up from those supporting this. i have always felt very welcome at the eagle. to imply a new ownership would be more open than the eagle, i have always felt very welcome there in an lgbt establishment. there is diversity in the lgbt community that was blown over in this conversation. there's a difference between badlands and the eagle versus the cafe. there is diversity in the lgbt committee that has to be acknowledged as well. that is not with the liquor license transfers about today, for me. for me as a neighborhood supervisor, i need to see that outreach has been done. i need to see support in the neighborhood. this is not market street where less out reach needs to happen because it is a more commercial district. i think this is very much a neighborhood. there is definitely residential in this area. there are also a number of small businesses in the area that could have outreach with them. for that reason, i was going to motion to

i have been part of the lgbt community. one of my greatest i school memories was being out with stop aids, probably as the youngest female member of the time. as an adult, i have been involved with san francisco general and the haight ashbury clinics. i am a little nervous. i have also been involved in burning man and the art projects. i know eli spear personally. he is a close friend of mine. i have worked with him closely on projects. i know his dedication to the community and art is incredible. that is why i am here today, because i have been a patron of the eagle talon. i have loved the eagle tavern very much. i miss it. i am also here today to say it is empty right now. i know there is an amazing opportunity. i think is part of a group that can bring something special and new to the space. with their dedication, it can be a new place of art and community, music and bring everybody together. maybe not in the same way it used to be, but in a new way that we can also celebrate. thank you. supervisor elsbernd: thank you. n

i will say that there hasn't been a lot of data collected on lgbt people, and in particular lgbt youths. and i'd like to just sort of give props to the obama administration, um, for in many of their departments being real leaders in this area beginning to collect those statistics which will give us the data to come up with programs and strategies that are appropriate for the degree of the problem. um, what little data we do have shows it's clear enough though, the negative impact of homophobia and transphobia means that lgbt youth is are at greater risk of dropping out of school, and they experience harassment, violence, homelessness, hiv infection and suicidal ideation at much higher rates than their heterosexual counterparts. towards the end of 2010, um, it was in this context that we have always thought about suicide among lgbtñr youth, but particularly at the end of 2010 with the media coverage of some very high-profile suicides -- and i should say at this point this presentation i also mean those who may not actually be lgbt. they suffer from the same discrimination and violence t
