up next, we tour sonoma state university's collections with lynn prime who shows us movies based on the works of jack london and a collection of ernest hemingway's private letters. >> we're on the campus of sonoma statement in the waring jones room which is where our jack london collection is housed. it also houses the jack london in context collection. and right next to us are all of our other special collections including our hemingway letters and some other unique and fragile, in many cases, materials. the collection is, all told, it's probably about 5,000 items, 500 or so items related to movies, hundreds and hundreds of first edition books and probably close to a thousand items in the serial publications like cosmopolitan magazine and "ladies home journal" and colliers magazine. our special collections are unique in a wide variety of ways. all of the materials we have we try to use them to support undergraduate research and learning. so we have, for instance, with the jack london collection we have first editions of many of jack london's novels, we have first editions in serial for

coming up, a visit to sonoma state university, as we take a look inside their special collection and some personal letters of jack london and ernest hemingway. we also talk about two local authors about their book on female first responders to the 911 terrorism attack. but first, we go inside the charles and scholz museum to learn about the social, but terry woven into the daily comic strip, peanuts. >> we are here at the charles scholz museum in santa rosa california, we opened in 2002. peanuts beyond publication in 1950 and it was a publish until february 13, 2000. charles scholz was a master of the human condition and his social commentary came into. he chose to became neutral and kinda wishy-washy like charlie brown. you do see the characters commenting on things like title ix, or school prayer, integration of peanuts with the introduction of franklin in 1968. these were just part of what charles scholz was dry and every day and what he was observing from the world around him that he brought into the comic strip. he wasn't nastily making comments on those themselves, in the case
