the testing and tracing supremo, dido harding, explained it like this. the data shows that 400,807 of the contacts we identified didn't confirm to us that they would self—isolate. this doesn't necessarily mean that these people aren't self—isolating. some of them we've been unable to reach. some of the people in this category will have already been told by their friends to self— isolate, and only a small minority don't want to self—isolate. and we need to understand why this is and what we can do to support them to stay at home. so there are loads and loads of numbers there. i saw you typing away straight into the website saying what it all means a few hours ago. what's the story here? the message from matt hancock, talking about how it was our civic duty to get involved in this if the phone rings, to self—isolate. because we could be a phone call away from two weeks' worth of domesticate incarceration. that is, on the other hand, government messaging about getting more shops open. there is a subtly around the communication. if we don't get inv

i think it is a step in the right direction, i think that is how dido harding will talk about it. it's not fantastic, in the sense they have not traced absolutely everybody, some people are absolutely everybody, some people a re clearly not absolutely everybody, some people are clearly not giving their details. but there are some positives in all of this, and really in the end this is part of a package of measures. if you look at the social distancing, you look at people washing their hands, people behaving differently, plus, a test and trace system, it means you can break that chain of transmission, and that is what all of this is about. so at the moment, if they can get to two thirds of people who are going along with this, and they can trace them and chuck that area down, all of that is going to help. but now zico they want it to be better. we had lots of stories of those contact tracers sitting around not doing anything, some of them said, partly i think that is because a lot of people enter the data themselves, you can do it online. but what they will want to do is to encoura
