light rain there at times through the south bay. south bay tends to fall. any time we get a little bit of rain, it's a welcome sight. afternoon breaks, so the heaviest part of the storm is happening right now. it will continue at least into the next hour or so. right around 8:30, 9:00 a.m. still remaining for the north bay. take a look at the hour by hour outlook. 10:00 a.m., we'll see the majority start trekking east. if you have plans to travel, they'll see the gusty winds. a couple showers. by 12:00, lunch hour, we should be in the clear at least when it comes to the rain. we're going to get a break from that. peeks of sunshine at times. the beautiful skies and then saturday into saturday afternoon, we're going to get a couple areas of light rain here and there. a little bit of a break before we see the rain outlook heading into sunday. here it is. the atmospheric river event we have been following. the river of the sky. and that's basically when we get a tap of moisture that directs itself right in our location bringing us heavy rainfall amounts in a qu

south along the peninsula, to palo alto, the south bay closing in on an inch. the winds have backed off or they were gusting 30 to 60 miles per hour this afternoon. they have calm down, and will remain light overnight tonight. we are mainly in the 50's, and will stay here through the overnight hours. on the storm impact scale, still a level four storm tonight, at least the next four hours. by 3:00 a.m., the storm should be out of here. we still have several hours of the south bay to get through with that heavy rain. roads are flooded, and we still have power outages. 1:00 a.m., scattered showers in the northbay, heavier pockets of rain in the south bay. by 4:00 a.m., the heaviest of the wet weather is out of here. it is tapering to scattered showers. by 7 a.m., we are seeing partly sunny skies. just an isolated shower here or there. additional rainfall on top of what we've already seen. probably at 10th to 2/10 of an inch. the heaviest has really moved out to the south and east. we're just talking about residual rainfall tomorrow morning. for the commute, use c

it pushes into the east bay and south bay. that is a good for our -- four hour period of more rain. 6:00, it is raining in the south bay, and we are looking at that game being not only rainy and windy, but it continues all through the evening hours. northbay gets a break through the overnight hours. the front still has not cleared the santa clara valley until about 3:00 in the morning. rainfall totals through early monday morning look to be about 2.7 in oakland, 2.8 in fremont. that is another inch or so for you. concord another 2 inches to go. livermore, you have about three inches on the way. santa rosa looking at another 2 inches or so. along half moon bay, still a couple inches. 11:00, the winds continue to shift, 40 to 50 miles per hour -- i should say gusts. then they will shift by 4:00 or 5:00 into the south bay. the front is making progress, but not until the late afternoon, and we are still left with breezy winds. early in the morning, wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour. along period of west northwesterly swell of bre

half-moon bay as well. and so right now, nothing yet in the south bay. nothing in mountain view. fremont, but look on the way. this is going to be making its way in within the next 10, 15, 20 minutes or so into portions of the south bay and also the santa cruz mountains as well i'm going to take you through the timeline of the big storm we're tracking heading into the weekend. >> this is not the big one, but it looks big when it looks like at this chunkier version. east shore freeway, it came over from the north bay. colting down the peninsula it will be hitting 101. now south of the bridge, everything is a lot lighter and it's fine right now, but the big rain is starting to move in. the big deal is not on the freeway. in the south bay, we have the pd continuing with an investigation of a deadly crash here at metcalf road. the alternate is 101. but police are have closed that intersection. so we'll have to avoid that. that's important for the southern portion. and an important note. we're talking about solo crashes, which may be more common as the rain comes in today. >> the stor

you can see it's over the north bay and the south bay. it's going to take a long time to get down toward the south bay. as we roll through the day on sunday, there we go, 8:00 a.m., it's over the north bay. >> then starting to spread. >> exactly. but not much down there into the south bay. we'll have to go into the afternoon to get that consistent rainfall through the peninsula and east bay. south bay, you're still in that rain shadow, we call it a rain shadow because the santa cruz mountains seal a lot of that moisture. once we hit sunday evening, it moves right down into the south bay by about 7:30 into 9:30. we should see this storm system clear out once we hit monday morning. with that said, i did want to show, look at these totals, focusing on the north bay, that magenta pink color to gray, that's two to four inches of rain. that's a lot. we could see flooding specifically in the north bay. they're going to get hit the hardest. two inches on average in the east bay and peninsula. i still think we'll get in 3/4 inch to 1 inch. a lot h

when does it start to reach down into the south bay? this starts to move from north to south into the evening hours. if you'll be heading to that niners game, before the game, a little chance of drizzle or two. windy. wind from the south but in the middle of the game is when we see heavier pockets of rain. closer to the south bay, so definitely take your poncho. be prepared. don't get caught off guard. these heavy bands of rain move over into the early morning hours on monday. wind speed and direction. it is going to be windy. gusty at times. in the south bay where the game is going to be, 20-plus miles per hour and then gusty overnight into monday. greater tahoe, beautiful sight there. isn't that stunning? potentially up to two feet of snow there sunday night into monday. quite the weekend we've got to look forward to. back to you. >> i think vianey is always online. follow her for the latest weather changes. @nbcvianeyarana. >>> rain or shine, the dars at one of the most popular county fair gates are going to open today. >> the alamed

east bay and you're still rain shadowed in the south bay. it has a hard time developing because the higher elevations steal a lot of that moisture. then as we roll through the afternoon and the evening you'll start to see more consistent rainfall on sunday over the east bay and the peninsula. it's still going strong over the north bay but san jose again rain shadowed. as we head through the evening, you'll see at 7:30 at night on sundays we'll see that rainfall develop down over the south bay and this thing will kick out of here monday morning. get ready for these totals. this is just phenomenal. we couldn't get anything close to this if we tried for the past ten months. what you're going to see here is a massive bull's-eye of rain over the north bay. that gray to pink magenta color, that's anywhere from 2 to 4 inches. you can see the key at the top. a lot of the east bay and peninsula 2 inches. south bay rain shadowed but three-quarters to 1 inch for san jose. on top of this we'll get wind 20 to 45 miles per hour, so wet and windy. on my se

widespread 60s from the north bay down to the south bay. now here's the other thing, while we get sun for the middle of the day we'll look at another chance late tomorrow night of a spotty shower right around 11:00 p.m. but after that, we're going to be looking good here as we head through this weekend's forecast. if you're headed out to fleet week, make sure to take those sunglasses and that jacket, temps in the 60s. as the first day of the air shows begin tomorrow. maybe it's not there, but oracle park, game one, we're going to have 50s through that game and those clouds. i think pregame on saturday is going to be awesome. we'll get some sun in san francisco and mid-60s. on my seven-day forecast, we'll hold with those 60s in san francisco over the next seven days and for the inland valleys we go warmer this weekend. i've got this set to 79 on sunday and then unfortunately some wind next monday and tuesday that will increase our fire danger. but there it is, this weekend momo's, i'll see you guys there. i had to say it. i love that place.

not much for the south bay. then eventually we're going to get that rainfall moving to the south bay as we hit 7:30 at night on sunday. we could get into some flooding issues, maybe some mudslides in those fire burn zones. we're going to get all of this to clear on out once we roll into monday morning's forecast. rainfall totals, i've been talking about it, but this really is off the charts. we haven't seen anything like this in about ten months. right up through the north bay, that magenta to gray color is 2 to 4 inches. the 4-inch better bet would be up towards the mountains. right around 2 inches for the east bay and the peninsula. and down towards the south bay we're rain shadowed but i think we'll be in three-quarter to 1-inch range. if you're headed out at all on sunday, that wind again 20 to 45 miles per hour will make it gusty, especially at the game on sunday if you're headed to levi's. there's temperatures in the 50s. should begin to pick up by kickoff into halftime. on my seven-day forecast, we do get

high stakes thieves targeting high-tech in the south bay. bizarre early-morning break-in involving a cryptocurrency machine inside a liquor store. we have the story only on nbc bay area news. >> reporter: this surveillance video from early thursday morning shows thieves pulling their truck up to the sunnyvale liquor store, reaching through the front door and tieing a cord around the atm inside. but this is not your typical atm. this one is a bitcoin atm. >> you put cash into the machine, and it increases your bitcoin account. >> reporter: that's what the thieves wanted, the cash inside. they pulled the bitcoin atm through the front of the business leaving a trail of damage before speeding off. >> it's there. it's got money in it. let me take it. >> reporter: as the price of bitcoin soars, the number of bitcoin atms where you can exchange cash for the cryptocurrency, is also on the rise. 48,000 of them are now dotted around the country. vulnerable to thieves in vans, like crypto is vulnerable on line to hackers. >> i mean, obviously, if i was

the south bay. it happened at a milpitas strip mall. a man began shooting at them and a prolong gunfight happened. the shooter barricaded himself inside his car. police were able to remove him and take him into the hospital. no word on his condition. the officers were told were not injured. ism the fda is now recommending emergency use authorizations for the johnson & johnson booster, this comes after the fda recommended emergency authorization for the moderna booster earlier this week. the cdc is expected to approve both the johnson & johnson and moderna boosters by halloween. the pfizer booster was authorized in september. pfizer is the only option for a booster but it's limited for certain group like people who had the pfizer shot to begin with. as for the booster, it's wide open for anyone 18 and older, it should be given two months after your initial dose. the booster roll out is adding to the ongoing debate over the vaccine itself. >> get it to keep people safe, not only yourself but your love

let's start in the south bay. so northbound north of mcallen avenue. >> all lanes were shut down for. i would say at least 1510, minutes, the air they just opened up the lanes there because i was gonna say take 8.80, to 87 has a good option around that. but again, you've got a traffic collision the e to 80 northbound north of the college avenue got so bad they had to shut down all the lanes temporarily just open and then back up. so if you're trying get around that delay long to 8887 would still be good options for you. there. we have another traffic accident. it's on the richmond. sandra fell bridge 5.80, westbound as you're heading out of richmond. so that in addition to the slick conditions makes for a longer commute. a little under 60 minutes for your drive time they're an overturned tractor trailer. we have a northbound at west tennyson road that off-ramp there block to 38 would be a good option if you're trying to get around that delay a lot of roadway flooding as you're heading into the maze into the city t

pretty much 80s all around from the north bay, east bay, and south bay valley locations for saturday. now, contrast that to sunday. it is almost the exact opposite of what we are going to see around here on saturday. cloudy skies, cooling temperatures, a sea breeze increasing humidity across the fire lines there in the santa cruz mountains. seeing highs mostly there the low to mid-60s on sunday and as you are about to see, increasing clouds and rain chances showing up now sunday afternoon. the morning looks fine. then, by 4:00, rain approaching the coast moving through pretty quickly. by 7:00, out of the south bay there. on sunday, a few passing showers into monday morning. and then, round one starts to wind down. but it now looks like most of the bay area should at least get a little bit of rain late-sunday afternoon into sunday evening. and pass that, weather system number two arrives into tuesday night and wednesday. that impacting mostly the north bay. and then, progressively, now as we get into friday and next weekend, you can see the potential for wetter storms packing a bigger

bay and then ultimately the south bay. it looks quite sloppy for the niners game going on tomorrow as well. here's where it is right now. golly. gee, i want to with this is there you can see it's a there's us over there. so this time period is basically an all-day event. as you can see, where it's relatively clear before that system drops into town watching this projected forward. we have again, the scattered showers for today that will take us about 4 o'clock or so and then really it's the dead of night that we get hit as you can see shortly after the witching hour. mostly favoring the north bay can't stand over here real briefly there. we've got the heavier rains up to the north bay and that will be pounding throughout the morning hours dropping south during the afternoon hours still yet to filter in the south bay about 3.15, as you can see, then through the evening hours and then sunday overnight to monday morning. the heavy rains continue to the south, even portions of the east bay as well. but at that point, even by 0

san francisco down both throughout all the way to the south bay. looking at some light rain along the entirety of that drive. also looking at moderate showers hanging out around dublin up san ramon quieter from concord on down to walnut creek as well as across 24 as you drop into oakland and berkeley light sprinkles around richmond bay bridge is still in the midst of some light showers here and there. once you get south of san leandro dropping down to hayward and crossing over towards doubling along 5.80 watch out for some slick spots as we're still actively looking at rain antioch. you've been quiet compared to the rest of us this morning. but you've seen your showers as well. just not quite as much as the rest pittsburgh on up across the car. king is to fairfield eventually up 80 to vacaville. also active san jose. you had been sitting it out. but we have seen a few sprinkles popping up here and they're also isolated pockets of good moderate rainfall sunnyvale as you head over to 37 towards milpitas and on up 6.80, to 80 up to fremont from there.

friday over the north bay, east bay, peninsula, south bay. it will be pretty quick moving here and kick out about 10:00 a.m. on friday. rainfall totals with this on average about .5 to .75 inches for a lot of the bay area. north bay toward contra costa county county, alameda counties, a lot of the peninsula. rain shadowing going on for the southern peninsula and san jose, so the mountains are stealing a lot of the moisture, not leaving as much in san jose, .25 inches or less. rain shadow with that second storm down toward the south bay. beyond that, we are talking about that sunday storm system. and this is definitely going to have what's called an atmospheric river tap. it's a copious amount of moisture, some subtropical moisture that builds in the pacific. saturday night, we're starting to get that rainfall moving in here towards the bay area. then watch, there is that atmospheric river lining up right there. it's going to be pointed to the north over eureka by sunday morning, and then watch as we head through sunday night. you can see how
