a shooting at sunvalley mall in concord. >> we have more from the scene. melissa, we saw so many cop cars at the scene. >> reporter: and i got to tell you, it was a pretty scary scene for these shoppers who were in there earlier today here at the mall doing some last-minute shopping. i got a chance to speak to a shopper who said he was on the second floor, all of a sudden he heard a loud pop. because's new year's eve he thought maybe it's a firework, when he saw people running for the doors he realized it was a gunshot. i spoke to another shopper who said that he heard there was an argument between two people near the food court area of the mall, and that is what may have triggered this shooting. again, we are waiting for more confirmed information from concord police. right now what concord police are telling us is that the mall is under lockdown. presumably police are looking for the shooter, and police are asking people to avoid the area. of course, this is an active investigation. as you can see from the multitude of squad cars that we are seeing here,

in 2021, concord police responded twice to the sun valley mall. two robberies in the spring and the fall. a smash and grab robbery last november inside a jewelry store. suspects smashing display cases with hammers. and last may a shooting left one man wounded. the shooter got away. police are not saying if the crimes could be related. in this robbery, authorities are asking for information and tips from the public. cornell barnard, abc 7 news. jobina: police are investigating a deadly shooting in the richmond district last night that happened near 3rd avenue and cornwall street. neighbors say that are struggling with increasing crime. >> you hear carjacking, car break in, theft. there's a bunch of homeless people around the neighborhood. jobina: investigators are looking for a red nissan seaddan in connection with the shooting. a freeze warning into night. spencer christian joins us with a look at the lows. my hands have still not recovered from being outside. it is called. spencer: i understand. bundle up tonight if you are going back outside. we
