World Party are a British musical group, which is essentially the solo project of its sole member, Karl Wallinger. He started the band in 1986 in London after leaving the Waterboys. Wallinger is one of the best kept secrets in the music industry. He is not amazingly prolific but the quality of his work is great! We need more like him! This set brings together all the unreleased and obscure tracks. Fantastic Beatles covers. Karl Wallinger/World Party is one of the most underappreciated artists in the world.
Arkeology is a compilation album by World Party released on April 10, 2012. The album is composed almost entirely of previously unreleased material: 70 tracks including new songs finished as recently as 2011, plus an "unheard history of rare studio gems, live sessions, concert recordings, radio interviews, covers, demos and B-sides." Sure, there is the obvious Beatles influence including a handful of Beatles' covers, but Wallinger is quite his own man too and these songs all resonate with his distinctive musical touch.
This compilation is not simply b-sides and outtakes--it's a great snapshot of a variety of styles and feelings from the wonderfully inventive idea that is World Party. Glad to know that he didn't simply rely on his old standbys for this release, it's a treasure trove of tidbits that are a must have for any World Party fan. All performances are great and the joy of discovering this huge part of music will be continuing for a long time. This is a musical treasure chest.
