Young Men Olympian Jr. is the oldest parading social aid and pleasure club in New Orleans. The club hails from Uptown and this is their 131st year parading. Every year they host two parades - one is their anniversary parade which is two hours long and which they wear their traditional white jackets, black pants, sashes, fez hats and canes. The other usually happens two weeks later and is a four hour long parade with 5-6 divisions and as many bands performing at the parade. The all-male club is known for putting on one of the largest second lines of the year as well as for their brilliant footwork. The band playing this year’s anniversary parade is The Sons of Jazz led by Michael Brooks, son of the late great musical icon Tuba Fats.
Here the club is rolling down Claiborne Ave. while the band plays ‘The Doe’ by The Lil Rascal’s Brass Band.
