Forum: etree Subject: deriving flacs from shns


As we are starting to run our music files through analysis tools (very cool!), we found that at least one tool does not know how to deal with shn's. since disk space does not cost what it did, and flac's are pretty standard, it seems to make sense to derive flac's from shn's (this would of course leave the shn's as is).

Wanted to bring this up in case there are issues.

As long as data integrity is maintained this is a welcome development. I am in the process of converting a batch of old master SHN files to FLAC and recirculating them so it may save me some time personally (for those recordings already circulated at least).

yes, we can handle this. I did want to float it to see if there were counter suggestions that outweighed this.

no issues. i think having all the .shn files derive into .flac (and leaving the original .shn files) is a great idea. .flac has been the standard for over 10 years now. those 'super old' shows should get the derive treatment!
