Forum: genealogy Subject: Help - Reel #'s and other searchable/sortable info removed from NARA scans. Why, now just a jumbled mess.

The collection "Eastern Cherokee applications of the U.S. Court of Claims" from the National Archives has more than 340 scans from microfiche.
Until recently the titles started with the reel number - Reel 001, Reel 002, etc.- and included the applications on each reel.
An example,
Vol Reel 058 Cherokee Indians – Claims Applications 5592-5690: Eastern Cherokee applications of the U.S. Court of Claims, 1906-1909 [microform]

The Reel number and application numbers have all been removed. All 340+ scans have been reduced to the title:
Eastern Cherokee applications of the U.S. Court of Claims, 1906-1909 [microform].
It's just a jumbled mess. Even weirder the index of names has been converted to non-digital format. And I can find the archive.org General Index to the applications with a keyword search on Google, but NOT on archive.org (metadata, text data, nothing)
Someone had to go in and remove the data for each of the scans. Why? It's absurd.
Would love help with how to find the images I need.

try using advanced search:
https://archive.org/advancedsearch.php?q="Eastern+Cherokee+applications+of+the+U.S.+Court+of+Claims"&fl[]=identifier&fl[]=volume&rows=500&page=1&callback=callback&save=yes&output=tables

Jeff, Thank you for your reply and for the suggestion, I will try the advanced search.
Since you are the archivist involved with the NARA Eastern Cherokee Applications collection going back to 2010, I assume you can provide some insight regarding the change to the titles.
Obviously there's a reason the entire collection was changed, but it's counterintuitive to alter the catalog in a way that makes it more difficult to find material.
Also, I am positive that researchers would be grateful to have a forum attached to the collection! Native American research is notoriously difficult so a forum would be a valuable addition.
Regards,
Martha
