This is the first study of a 4-study sequence. The goal of the first study is to assess the relationship between accuracy of judging affective states and accuracy of judging personality traits. We predict that these will be positively related to a moderate degree. Participant-judges will observe videotapes of individuals interacting with a research assistant in a lab setting, and then provide judgments of both affect and traits.

This study tests the causal relationship between affect accuracy and trait accuracy by manipulating the validity of affective and trait information given to judges, and then examining how accuracy of judgments on the other domain are affected.
