It has been widely debated whether the ability to learn and use categories is a universal aspect of biological learning. While the presence of basic category learning mechanisms has been found across different species (Shepard, 1987), the prominent literature focuses on a narrow population, specifically, WEIRD (Western, educated, industrialized, rich, and democratic) populations (Masuda & Nisbett, 2001; Norenzayan et al., 2002). As a result, cultural variation in category learning has been...

Recently there has been a large shift in public perception. Psychedelics have enjoyed a revival of sorts in academia and the popular culture. R. Griffiths et al., 2006). In a similar vein, mindfulness and adjacent contemplative practices have also risen dramatically in popularity both...

The present study aims to replicate experiment 2 from Ward et al. (2017). In this experiment, Ward et al. demonstrated that proximity to one's smartphone (i.e. either on one's desk, in pocket/bag, or in another room) impacted performance on a cognitive task. Those with closer proximity to one's smartphone showed worse performance than those farther from their smartphone. Additionally, this effect was moderated by individual differences in smartphone dependency; where, those who self-reported as...
