In this paper, we explore the theme of orbifold stratified spaces and establish a general criterion for them to be smooth orbifolds. This criterion utilizes the notion of linear stratification on the gluing bundles for the orbifold stratified spaces. We introduce a concept of good gluing structure to ensure a smooth structure on the stratified space. As an application, we provide an orbifold structure on the coarse moduli space $\bar{M}_{g, n}$ of stable genus $g$ curves with $n$-marked points....

In the paper, we provide an effective method for the Lipschitz equivalence of two-branch Cantor sets and three-branch Cantor sets by studying the irreducibility of polynomials. We also find that any two Cantor sets are Lipschitz equivalent if and only if their contraction vectors are equivalent provided one of the contraction vectors is homogeneous.

We use quantum Monte Carlo (stochastic series expansion) and finite-size scaling to study the quantum critical points of two S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnets in two dimensions: a bilayer and a Kondo-lattice-like system (incomplete bilayer), each with intra- and inter-plane couplings J and J_perp. We discuss the ground-state finite-size scaling properties of three different quantities--the Binder moment ratio, the spin stiffness, and the long-wavelength magnetic susceptibility--which we use to...

We propose a treatment of the subleading corrections to finite-size scaling that preserves the notion of data collapse. This approach is used to extend and improve the usual Binder cumulant analysis. As a demonstration, we present results for the two- and three-dimensional classical Ising models and the two-dimensional, double-layer quantum antiferromagnet.

We solved the unextendible maximally entangled basis (UMEB) problem in $\mathbb{C}^{d}\bigotimes\mathbb{C}^{d'}(d\neq d')$,the results turn out to be that there always exist a UMEB.In addition, there might be two sets of UMEB with different numbers. The main difficult is to prove the unextendibility of the set of states. We give an explicit construction of UMEB by considering the Schmidt number of the complementary space of the states we construct.

With the advance of modern technology, more and more data are being recorded continuously during a time interval or intermittently at several discrete time points. They are both examples of "functional data", which have become a prevailing type of data. Functional Data Analysis (FDA) encompasses the statistical methodology for such data. Broadly interpreted, FDA deals with the analysis and theory of data that are in the form of functions. This paper provides an overview of FDA,...

We investigate the unextendible maximally entangled bases in $\mathbb{C}^{d}\bigotimes\mathbb{C}^{d}$ and present a $30$-number UMEB construction in $\mathbb{C}^{6}\bigotimes\mathbb{C}^{6}$. For higher dimensional case, we show that for a given $N$-number UMEB in $\mathbb{C}^{d}\bigotimes\mathbb{C}^{d}$, there is a $\widetilde{N}$-number, $\widetilde{N}=(qd)^2-(d^2-N)$, UMEB in $\mathbb{C}^{qd}\bigotimes\mathbb{C}^{qd}$ for any $q\in\mathbb{N}$. The viscous Cardassian cosmology is discussed, assuming that there is a bulk viscosity in the cosmic fluid. The dynamical analysis indicates that there exists a singular curve in the phase diagram of viscous Cardassian model. In the viscous PL model, the equation-of-state parameter $w_{k}$ is no longer a constant and it can cross the cosmological constant divide $w_{\Lambda}=-1$, in contrast with same problem of the ordinary PL model. Other models possess with similar characteristics. For MP...

In this paper, we study the one-way local operations and classical communication (LOCC) problem. In $\mathbb{C}^d\otimes\mathbb{C}^d$ with $d\geq4$, we construct a set of $3\lceil\sqrt{d}\rceil-1$ one-way LOCC indistinguishable maximally entangled states which are generalized Bell states. Moreover, we show that there are four maximally entangled states which cannot be perfectly distinguished by one-way LOCC measurements for any dimension $d\geq 4$.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is an imaging technique which can be used to investigate chemical changes in human biological processes such as cancer development or neurochemical reactions. Most dynamic PET scans are currently analyzed based on the assumption that linear first order kinetics can be used to adequately describe the system under observation. However, there has recently been strong evidence that this is not the case. In order to provide an analysis of PET data which is free...

Questions concerning the definition and existence of the corresponding functional linear regression models and some basic properties are explored for this situation. We derive a representation of the regression parameter function in terms of the canonical components of the processes involved. This representation establishes a connection between functional...

The ground state phase of spin-1/2 J_1-J_2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on square lattice in the maximally frustrated regime (J_2 ~ 0.5J_1) has been debated for decades. Here we study this model by using a recently proposed novel numerical method - the cluster update algorithm for tensor product states (TPSs). The ground state energies at finite sizes and in the thermodynamic limit (with finite size scaling) are in good agreement with the state of art exact diagonalization study, and the...

In this paper, we study the estimation for a partial-linear single-index model. A two-stage estimation procedure is proposed to estimate the link function for the single index and the parameters in the single index, as well as the parameters in the linear component of the model. Asymptotic normality is established for both parametric components. For the index, a constrained estimating equation leads to an asymptotically more efficient estimator than existing estimators in the sense that it is...

In many situations, data are recorded over a period of time and may be regarded as realizations of a stochastic process. In this paper, robust estimators for the principal components are considered by adapting the projection pursuit approach to the functional data setting. Our approach combines robust projection-pursuit with different smoothing methods. Consistency of the estimators are shown under mild assumptions. The performance of the classical and robust procedures are compared in a...

We construct a class of projected entangled pair states (PEPS) which is exactly the resonating valence bond (RVB) wavefunctions endowed with both short range and long range valence bonds. With an energetically preferred RVB pattern, the wavefunction is simplified to live in a one parameter variational space. We tune this variational parameter to minimize the energy for the frustrated spin 1/2 J1-J2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the square lattice. Taking a cylindrical geometry, we are...

We studied the construction problem of the unextendible product basis (UPB). We mainly give a method to construct a UPB of a quantum system through the UPBs of its subsystem. Using this method and the UPBs which are known for us, we construct different kinds of UPBs in general bipartite quantum system. Then we use these UPBs to construct a family of UPBs in multipartite quantum system. The UPBs can be used to construct the bound entangled states with different ranks.

We give a explicit construction of $d$ locally indistinguishable orthogonal maximally entangled states in $\mathbb{C}^d\otimes\mathbb{C}^d$ for any $d\geq 4$. This gives an answer to the conjecture proposed by S. Bandyopadhyay in 2009. Thus it reflects the nonlocality of the fundamental feature of quantum mechanics.

Although the effects depend strongly on the nature of the edge and the cluster size, our results indicate that line widths broader than the average shift should be expected...

In this paper, we mainly study the local indistinguishability of multipartite product states. Firstly, we follow the method of Z.-C. Zhang \emph{et al}[Phys. Rev. A 93, 012314(2016)] to give another more concise set of $2n-1$ orthogonal product states in $\mathbb{C}^m\otimes\mathbb{C}^n(4\leq m\leq n)$ which can not be distinguished by local operations and classical communication(LOCC). Then we use the 3 dimension cubes to present some product states which give us an intuitive view how to...

We study the unextendible maximally entangled bases (UMEB) in $\mathbb{C}^{d}\bigotimes\mathbb{C}^{d}$ and connect it with the partial Hadamard matrix. Firstly, we show that for a given special UMEB in $\mathbb{C}^{d}\bigotimes\mathbb{C}^{d}$, there is a partial Hadamard matrix can not extend to a complete Hadamard matrix in $\mathbb{C}^{d}$. As a corollary, any $(d-1)\times d$ partial Hadamard matrix can extend to a complete Hadamard matrix. Then we obtain that for any $d$ there is an UMEB...

The analytical forms of the interaction potentials between one S-wave and one P-wave heavy mesons as well as the potentials between two P-wave heavy mesons are deduced based on a chiral quark model. Our results explicitly show the attractive property between two heavy mesons. Consequently, a series of possible molecular states are obtained. It is expected that our study might shed some light on the popular discussions of the newly observed XYZ states.

We develop the theory of Chern-Simons bundle 2-gerbes and multiplicative bundle gerbes associated to any principal $G$-bundle with connection and a class in $H^4(BG, \ZZ)$ for a compact semi-simple Lie group $G$. The Chern-Simons bundle 2-gerbe realises differential geometrically the Cheeger-Simons invariant. We apply these notions to refine the Dijkgraaf-Witten correspondence between three dimensional Chern-Simons functionals and Wess-Zumino-Witten models associated to the group $G$. We do...

We discuss variationally optimized matrix-product states for the transverse-field Ising chain, using D*D matrices with small D=2-10. For finite system size N there are energy minimums for symmetric as well as symmetry-broken states, which cross each other at a field value hc(N,D); thus the transition is first-order. A continuous transition develops as N->infinity. The asymptotic critical behavior is then always of mean-field type (the magnetization exponent beta=1/2), but a window of field...
