We are investigating an understudied component of self-control that will assess what signals a need for self-control (i.e., identifying that a temptation is in direct conflict with the higher order goal) and the effect of cognitive processes (e.g., implicit attitudes that increase or decrease the value of temptations) and factors (e.g., personal, situational and visual aspects) that influence this identification and the attempts made to control.
