P apers investigate a Kaldor-Kalecki model of business cycle system with two different delays, which described the interaction of the gross product and the capital product . We derived the conditions for the local stability and the existence of Hopf bifurcation at the equilibrium of the system. By applying the normal form theory and center manifold theory, some explicit formula t e for determining the stability and the direction of the Hopf bifurcation periodic solutions are obtained. Some...

This Sunday-morning public-affairs institution is network TV's oldest program, but it's certainly no dinosaur as it continues to be a prime forum for newsmakers (domestic and foreign) wanting to make announcements or test political waters. The series, in which guests are questioned by the moderator and a panel of journalists, began its life in prime time in November 1947.

Moving from the consideration that matter fields must be treated in terms of their fundamental quantum counterparts, we show straightforward arguments, within the framework of ordinary quantum mechanics and quantum field theory, in order to convince readers that cosmological perturbations must be addressed in term of the semiclassical limit of the expectation value of quantum fields. We first take into account cosmological perturbations originated by a quantum scalar field, and then extend our...

Muography is an imaging technique for large and dense structures as volcanoes or nuclear reactors using atmospheric muons. We applied this technique to the observation of the Puy de D\^ome, a volcano 2 km wide close to Clermont-Ferrand, France. The detection is performed with a 1m$\times$1m$\times$1.80m telescope made of 4 layers of single gap glass-RPCs operated in avalanche mode. The 1 cm$^2$ pad readout uses the Hardroc2 ASICs. The three data taking campaigns over the last three years showed...

We recall Schur's work on universal central extensions and develop the analogous theory for categorical extensions of groups. We prove that the String 2-groups are universal in this sense and study in detail their restrictions to the finite subgroups of the Spin groups. Of particular interest are subgroups of the 3-sphere Spin(3), as well as the spin double covers of the alternating groups, whose categorical extensions turn out to be governed by the stable 3-stem.

This work is devoted to investigate the stability properties of time-delay reset systems. We present a Lyapunov-Krasovskii proposition, which generalizes the available results in the literature, providing results for verifying the stability of time-delay reset systems with nonlinear and time-varying base system. We demonstrate the applicability of the proposed results in the analysis of time-delay reset control systems, and an illustrative example with nonlinear, time-varying base system.

In this short note we observe that the concavity of Perelman's $\mathcal{W}$-functional over a neighborhood of a K\"ahler-Ricci soliton inside the space of K\"ahler potentials is a direct consequence of author's solution of the variational stability problem for K\"ahler-Ricci solitons. Independently, we provide a rather simple proof of this fact based on some elementary formulas obtained in our previous work.

The Yuan-Tseh Lee Array for Microwave Background Anisotropy (AMiBA) is a co-planar interferometer array operating at a wavelength of 3mm to measure the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect (SZE) of galaxy clusters. In the first phase of operation -- with a compact 7-element array with 0.6m antennas (AMiBA-7) -- we observed six clusters at angular scales from 5\arcmin to 23\arcmin. Here, we describe the expansion of AMiBA to a 13-element array with 1.2m antennas (AMiBA-13), its subsequent commissioning, and...

We study the probability distribution function (PDF) of mass surface densities, $\Sigma$, of infrared dark cloud (IRDC) G028.37+00.07 and its surrounding giant molecular cloud. This PDF constrains the physical processes, such as turbulence, magnetic fields and self-gravity, that are expected to be controlling cloud structure and star formation activity. The chosen IRDC is of particular interest since it has almost 100,000 solar masses within a radius of 8 parsecs, making it one of the most...

A first search for pair production of dark matter candidates through vector boson fusion in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV is performed with the CMS detector. The vector boson fusion topology enhances missing transverse momentum, providing a way to probe supersymmetry also in the case of a compressed mass spectrum. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 18.5 inverse femtobarns recorded by the CMS experiment. The observed dijet mass spectrum is consistent with...

Within the conventional theory of superconductivity superfluid carriers respond to an applied magnetic field and acquire a speed according to their effective (band) mass. On the other hand it can be shown theoretically and is confirmed experimentally that the mechanical momentum of the supercurrent carriers is given by the product of the supercurrent speed and the $bare$ electron mass. By combining these two well-established facts we show that the conventional BCS-London theory of...

We have studied the transmission of transverse oscillations through a thin Fermi liquid film, using Landau's Fermi liquid theory. Fermi liquid theory describes the dynamics of interacting, degenerate fermion systems, for example non-superfluid, i.e.\ normal state \textsuperscript{3}He at millikelvin temperatures. The response of a Fermi liquid to the transverse oscillations of a planar substrate has previously been calculated for a fluid layer of infinite thickness. We have modified these...

Auto-encoders are often used as building blocks of deep network classifier to learn feature extractors, but task-irrelevant information in the input data may lead to bad extractors and result in poor generalization performance of the network. In this paper, via dropping the task-irrelevant input variables the performance of auto-encoders can be obviously improved .Specifically, an importance-based variable selection method is proposed to aim at finding the task-irrelevant input variables and...

The proposed magnetised Iron CALorimeter detector (ICAL) to be built in the India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) laboratory aims to detect atmospheric muon neutrinos. In order to achieve improved physics results, the constituent components of the detector must be fully understood by proper characterisation and optimisation of various parameters. Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) are the active detector elements in the ICAL detector and can be made of glass or bakelite. The number of RPCs...

Spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking in three dimensional ($d=3$) quantum electrodynamics is understood as annihilation of an infrared-stable fixed point that describes the large-N conformal phase by another unstable fixed point at a critical number of fermions $N=N_c$. We discuss the root of universality of $N_c$ in this picture, together with some features of the phase boundary in the $(d,N)$ plane. In particular, it is shown that as $d\rightarrow 4$, $N_c\rightarrow 0$ with a constant slope,...

We design an effect protocol for protecting the single-photon entanglement from photon loss and decoherence. The protocol only requires some auxiliary single photons and the linear optical elements. By operating the protocol, the photon loss can be effectively decreased and the less entangled single photon state can be recovered to the maximally entangled state with some probability. Moreover, the polarization information encoded in the single photon state can be perfectly contained. The...

Urban areas consist of a mix of households and services, such as offices, shops, schools, etc. Yet power systems research usually only considers households. Omitting the service sector can lead to incorrect assessments of reality, in particular of measures needed to safeguard reliable supply as power generation transitions to intermittent renewable resources. This paper is the first fundamental study which explicitly addresses the impact of service sector loads on renewable resource...

Many powerful machine learning models are based on the composition of multiple processing layers, such as deep nets, which gives rise to nonconvex objective functions. A general, recent approach to optimise such "nested" functions is the method of auxiliary coordinates (MAC). MAC introduces an auxiliary coordinate for each data point in order to decouple the nested model into independent submodels. This decomposes the optimisation into steps that alternate between training single...

We study magnetic traps with very high trap frequencies where the spin is coupled to the motion of the atom. This allows us to investigate how the Born-Oppenheimer approximation fails and how effective magnetic and electric fields appear as the consequence of the non-adiabatic dynamics. The results are based on exact numerical diagonalization of the full Hamiltonian describing the coupling between the internal and external degrees of freedom. The position in energy and the decay rate of the...

The Wolf-Rayet 98a (WR 98a) system is a prime target for interferometric surveys, since its identification as a "rotating pinwheel nebulae", where infrared images display a spiral dust lane revolving with a 1.4 year periodicity. WR 98a hosts a WC9+OB star, and the presence of dust is puzzling given the extreme luminosities of Wolf-Rayet stars. We present 3D hydrodynamic models for WR 98a, where dust creation and redistribution are self-consistently incorporated. Our grid-adaptive...

In the Leggett-Garg approach to testing macrorealism, the two-time correlation functions, which are normally obtained by sequential measurements of a dichotomic variable Q, need to be measured in a non-invasive way in order to exclude certain types of alternative classical explanation. Here, it is shown, for a class of macrorealistic theories, that the correlation functions are readily expressed in terms of a time integral of the velocity corresponding to Q and that this expression can be...
