This is the Mechanical Shears model from 507 Mechanical Movements: http://507movements.com/mm_130.html You will need a 5/16" dowel, 4x 5/8" #6 screws, 2x 1/4" #6 screws, and a rubber band. The crank, nut, and cams all have a flat on one side so shave or sand off a bit of that dowel. Try to make it fit as snug as possible. It is best to assemble everything on the dowel, pilot drill through handle, nut, and base, screw screws in, and cut the dowel ends flush. See my blog post about...

This is a model of a mechanism I have seen a couple of times. The mechanism also appears in the book "Five Hundred and Seven Mechanical Movements". In the book it is listed as #027 and called "Multiple Gearing". The design was created in OpenSCAD. The OpenSCAD model is parameterized so that the number of arms on the small wheel can be changed easily. I have included SVG files for laser cutting models with 2,3,4,5 and 6 arms. the other parts are common between the designs....

This is a reworked update of Things 614962 and 652717. The geometry has been corrected to give a more truly linear output, and some fixing points have been enlarged for greater robustness. A complete set of stl file have been uploaded here. The model is based on mechanism 329 from 507movements.com. Designed in Moi and made in PLA on an Ultimaker 1. An animation created in Blender is available here: https://youtu.be/T4Nh_J__8oU A video of the printed model is available here:...

#Mechanical Movement 123 ###What is it? -This is a device that is designed to turn rotary motion into linear motion. It does this by having to drive gears engage with the rack at opposite times, in turn pulling the rack back and forth. The Description from the book 507 Mechanical Movements "Intended as a substitute for the crank. Reciprocating rectilinear motion of the double rack gives a continuous rotary motion to the center gear. The teeth on the rack act upon those of the two...
