A comprehensive set of experimental and analytical investigations have been conducted to assess the potential aerodynamic benefits from spanwise blowing at the tip of a moderate aspect ratio, swept wing. An analytical model has been developed to simulate a jet exhausting from the wing tip. An experimental study of a subsonic jet exhausting from the wing tip was conducted to investigate the effect of spanwise blowing from the tip on the aerodynamic characteristics of a moderate aspect ratio,...

In this paper a processor utilization model for a simplified multi-processor computer system is developed using a G/M/s/N queueing system model. The mathematical model is based on the busy period analysis, and two utilization measures are derived: (1) Processor utilization (the fraction of processor occupation time during a busy cycle), and (2) System utilization (the fraction of actual utilization time for all processors). Experimentation with the computational model reveals the sensitivity of...

A pipeline as defined here is a collection of segments of hardware which can operate simultaneously. A task flows synchronously from segment to segment for its execution. Each task follows one of several distinct task flow patterns which are assumed to be fixed and known in advance. It is characteristic of pipelines that a task can be initiated in the pipeline before an earlier initiated task has completed its execution. A problem arises when two or more tasks try to use the same segment at the...

Repeaters in the radio network need to be initialized by the station; namely, to receive a so-called label which enables addressing specific devices during packet transportation. It is assumed that a priori the station is not informed of the existance and location of specific repeaters. Hence, the initialization process involves sending special control packets, called Repeater On Packets (ROP's) from repeaters to the station to inform existance and location, the transmission of labels by the...

Asynchronous time division multiplexers (ATDM's) typically produce large phase excursions as a result of bit stuffing operations. Analog phase locked loops (PLL) are normally employed to smooth these excursions to levels which can be accepted by various sink equipments. For ATDM's which cover a broad range of rates, such as the AN/GSC-24, it is difficult to provide a high level of smoothing across the entire range due to noise and frequency limitations. This project investigated a digital PLL...

The mathematical study of buffering and flow control is based on a gradual input queueing model. The gradual input model has been used previously to study data multiplexors. Here it is extended to an entire message switched communication network. A probability of buffer overflow analysis is developed and used to determine buffer requirements. A delay analysis is also developed. The results obtained using the gradual input queue are compared to the commonly used M/M/1 queue model for message...

Communication concentrators perform the basic network function of merging many input flows into a single output flow. This requires formating the data and encoding side information about when messages start, what their lengths are and what their origins and destinations are.
