The behaviour of a power transformer is complex and difficult to predict during transient conditions or during operation at frequencies below or above its nominal frequency, a phenomenon common in renewable energy plants due to harmonic distortion. Furthermore, the accuracy of a power system simulation depends on the models of critical subsystems such as the power transformers. This paper presents the use of a unique excitation waveform comprising of pseudo-random current impulses to accurately...

This paper presents two solutions to cascade the doubly-fed induction machines in the power generator systems. The first solution is a traditional one with the power control circuit located on the stator-side. The second solution is a new one with the power control circuit located on the rotor-side. After analysis and evaluation, it is shown that the solution with the power control circuit located on the rotor side has advantages over the solution with the power control circuit located on the...

The main objective of aerospace industry is to produce all electric aircraft (AEA) equipped by electrical devices in coming developments. Electrical machines that provide higher torque densities are gaining more interest for researchers to obtain sustainable direct-drive electrical propulsion system for aircraft applications. In addition to lesser weight and higher torque density, a machine should be “fault tolerant” to applied in aerospace applications. A novel machine for high starting...

This paper presents the active suspension system (ASS) control method using the adaptive cascade control scheme. The control scheme is implemented by two control loops, the inner control loop and outer control loop are designed respectively. The inner control loop uses the pole assignment method in order to move the poles of the original system to desired poles respect to the required performance of the suspension system. To design the controller in the inner loop, the model without the noise...

The voltage generation process is a very crucial initial stage for the successful operation of the self-excited induction generator (SEIG). The availability of residual magnetism and the adequacy of excitation capacitor value are factors that determine the success of the voltage generation process on the SEIG. This paper analyzes the effect of the availability of residual magnetism on the rotor's magnetic core. With a simple approach, the terminal voltage on the SEIG can be solved through the...

In the design of a vibratory bowl feeder to produce the desired part feed rate, motion analyses are necessary on both the bowl and the part during excitation of the bowl feeder. This study modelled the excitation force of the electromagnet that gives a vibratory motion to the bowl feeder. The model showed that the excitation force increased linearly with the amplitude of the excitation voltage, whereas the force decreased parabolically with the increment of frequency. The force model was then...

With respect to our modeling of condensation in supersonic expansions, we have used molecular dynamics to derive condensation based models for DSMC for non-Leonard Jonesian gases such as water, carbon dioxide, and ammonia, common combustion products found in rocket plumes. Simple analytic approximate expressions have been derived for ELF propagation constants in the earth-ionosphere waveguide. The expressions are an extension of previous work to a more general class of ionospheric-conductivity height profiles. The expressions derived here allow the rapid computation of ELF phase speeds, attenuation rates, and excitation factors for a wide range of ionosphere conditions without the necessity of lengthy full-wave computer calculations. The results can be applied to...

It is often remarked that an explanation of spontaneous emission and the Lamb shift requires quantization of the electromagnetic field. Here, these two quantities are derived in a semiclassical formalism by use of second-order perturbation theory. The purpose of this report is not to argue the validity of QED but rather to develop a semiclassical approximation to QED that may nonetheless have certain computational advantages over QED. To this end, the vacuum of QED is simulated with a classical...

The hysteresis motor is a well-known synchronous motor that is used in special small power, high speed applications. Dynamic modeling and analysis of this motor is more complicated than permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) or induction motors (IMs) due to nonlinear behavior of rotor magnetic material. Short over-excitation is a unique phenomenon that only occurs in hysteresis motor in which the terminal voltage increase at synchronous speed for a short duration, and then continuously is...

In this report, we have used transient absorption spectroscopy to examine how photoexcitation modifies the optical properties of two metal oxide systems, Sn-doped indium oxide (ITO) NCs and oxygen-vacancy doped tungsten oxide (WO3-x) NCs. Plasmonic excitation of either material generates hot electrons on a sub-picosecond timescale that later cool by releasing their energy to lattice phonons. Both of these processes alter the center frequency and line width of a NCs plasmon resonance, but the...
