FlightGear is an open-source flight simulator. It supports a variety of popular platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.) and is developed by skilled volunteers from around the world. Source code for the entire project is available and licensed under the GNU General Public License . The goal of the FlightGear project is to create a sophisticated and open flight simulator framework for use in research or academic environments, pilot training, as an industry engineering tool, for DIY-ers to...

AV-8B nozzle handle for my modular axis wheel designed for the Thrustmaster Warthog Throttle assembly. After printing you must tap the holes with an M3x0.5 tap. Attach to the handle of the axis wheel with 2 M3 screws. I ended up using a longer screw on top with a nut and on the lower portion I used a shorter screw that barely protruded. As long as you tap the holes and don't over torque you should be fine without any nuts at all.

This part is designed to replace the grey axis wheel to the right of the throttles on the Thrustmaster Warthog throttle with the goal of allowing for modules to be added on. See https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5162955 for my AV-8B nozzle handle designed specifically for this part. Once printed, the two holes on the handle should be tapped with an M3x0.5 tap. Swapping is pretty straightforward once you've removed the back plate from the housing. This is designed to reuse the center disk on the...

Designed to allow for a pivoting mount to be mounted to a 4080 extrusion. I specifically designed it for this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5152425 Requires 2 M8 T-Slot nuts, 2 M8 bolts (may need washers depending on bolt length), and one 3/8-16x2-1/2" bolt with washers and a nut. The tolerances for the main through bolt are pretty tight so expect to either self-thread the bolt through or run a drill through. I personally allowed the bolt to thread itself in as it gives a tighter hold...

Extended wall standoffs for the MFG Crosswind pedals. They are about double the length at just under 8" (203mm). I used eSun PLA+ for my print with a 50% infill but I would probably bump to 75% if I were to print them again. They work fine at 50% but if your pedals aren't on a sticky surface you may want to increase the infill for more rigidity. Mine are on carpet and I added velcro for additional grip. They don't budge!

Yoke adapter for connecting a Cessna yoke to my flight simulator. Modeled after Cessna part # 0760017-4. It connects the yoke to a 1" OD tube. It is secured to the yoke with four #10-32 cap screws that thread into threaded inserts I installed into the yoke. It is attached to the tube using two 1/4-20 screws that thread into nuts slid into the nut holder that is inside the tube.

These are the escutcheons for a Cessna pilot's yoke. The left side one has holes for PTT and autopilot disconnect buttons as well as the trim switch I have designed. I modeled it after the one in a real Cessna 182 but modified it to fit my yoke, trim switch, and buttons I had on hand. Also included is a blank escutcheon for the right side of the yoke. You may need to adjust the size slightly, since mine is leather wrapped the width is different depending on the side.

Redesigned the knobs for naDiel's DIY Knobster model found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:398515 The original knobs had simple holes for attaching the rotary encoder and I wanted to be able to press-fit the knobs instead of gluing them in permanently. This model was designed for the Alps Electric EC11EBB24C03 rotary switch and should fit that switch pretty exactly.

You can use one or two blocks. Just place the block on the floor and lift the caster in and your are locked in place. The base is printed in TPU to give the block grip for any smooth or wood floors, you can stick it to the main block with glue or some thin, double-sided tape, the small fence keeps it...

While using my VR headset I discovered that it was sometimes hard to figure out which toggle switch I needed so I made these covers to solve that problem. There are stress reliefs cut into the side but they are a bit tight when pushing on to the toggle initially. Once fully seated, they should fit snug.

This is a simple, quick to print, mod to the Saitek/Logitech Flight Simulator Throttle Quadrant that adds stop gates for the throttle about 25% from the lower range. This allows for a reverse gate for throttle or a feather gate for prop, or a cutoff gate for mixture. Easy to set up with X-Plane 11 and other Flight SImulators. I printed in PLA and no finishing required. The handle tops on the throttle can be pulled off to allow the part to slide down over it. Then you can attach the stop blocks...

This is a remix based off of zx82net's model of his Quick release Picatinny Rail Mount and his metric Picatinny rail. Cessna 172 Skyhawk rudder pedals designed to be used with [MFG Crosswind](http://mfg.simundza.com/products) flight simulator rudder pedals. The Crosswinds are impressively well-built rudder pedals but the pedal style that is provided does not allow the typical heel-on-the-floor position that would normally be used in a Cessna 172. These pedals are similar in design to real Cessna 172 pedals, allowing a heel-on-the-floor position during flight and allowing toe-braking during taxi. These pedals...

This thesis addresses the problem of determining aircraft position during flight given noisy and biased measurements from a barometric altimeter and two tactical air navigation (TACAN) transceivers. A Kalman smoother is developed to perform post-flight data processing on the measurement data. The smoother estimates aircraft position, velocity, and acceleration as well as biases in the measurements. Since actual flight test data is not available, computer simulations examine the performance of...

Realization of the expected proliferation of Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) operations in the National Airspace System (NAS) depends on the development and validation of performance standards for UAS Detect and Avoid (DAA) Systems. The RTCA Special Committee 228 is charged with leading the development of draft Minimum Operational Performance Standards (MOPS) for UAS DAA Systems. NASA, as a participating member of RTCA SC-228 is committed to supporting the development and validation of draft...

Approach and landing operations during periods of reduced visibility have plagued aircraft pilots since the beginning of aviation. Although techniques are currently available to mitigate some of the visibility conditions, these operations are still ultimately limited by the pilot's ability to "see" required visual landing references (e.g., markings and/or lights of threshold and touchdown zone) and require significant and costly ground infrastructure. Certified Enhanced Flight Vision...

Thermal and Fluids Analysis Workshop Silver Spring, MD NCTS 21070-15 The Landsat 8 Data Continuity Mission, which is part of the United States Geologic Survey (USGS), launched February 11, 2013. A Landsat environmental test requirement mandated that test conditions bound worst-case flight thermal environments. This paper describes a rigorous analytical methodology applied to assess refine proposed thermal vacuum test conditions and the issues encountered attempting to satisfy this requirement.

The purpose of this effort is to develop, demonstrate, and evaluate three asymmetric thrust detection approaches to aid in the reduction of asymmetric thrust-induced aviation accidents. This paper presents the results from that effort and their evaluation in simulation studies, including those from a real-time flight simulation testbed. Asymmetric thrust is recognized as a contributing factor in several Propulsion System Malfunction plus Inappropriate Crew Response (PSM+ICR) aviation accidents....
