Study on the landslide is an attempt to understand the geo-environmental characteristics of landslide disaster in the hilly areas of Bangladesh in the context of Chittagong University campus. In the University campus a total of 16 colonies of 3 rd and 4 th class employees have been developed in an unplanned and illegal manner at the edge of hill-slops by cutting the hill soil. As consequence nearly every year during the monsoon period there are incidents of...

A combined optical and collection probe for solid propellant rocket motor exhaust particle analysis was designed and utilized in initial experiments with a sub-scale rocket motor. Shock swallowing capabilities of the probe were verified under restricted motor operations using a schlieren system. Window purge and ejector design were shown to be capable of keeping the probe windows clean when the probe was placed approximately 14 nozzle diameters downstream of the exhaust nozzle. The exhaust...

Dynamics Explorer 2 (DE 2) spacecraft data are used to detect and characterize polar cap 'ionization patches' loosely defined as large-scale (greater than 100 km) regions where the F region plasma density is significantly enhanced (approx greater than 100%) above the background level. These patches are generally believed to develop in or equatorward of the dayside cusp region and then drift in an antisunward direction over the polar cap. We have developed a flexible algorithm for the...

AlN thin film was prepared over different metal substrates using DC sputtering at various sputtering parameters. The XRD spectra revealed the presence of mixed (cubic and hexagonal) phases for all samples other than samples prepared at 300W with Ar:N2 gas ratio of 14:6. The intensities of cubic phases observed at copper (Cu) substrates increased drastically with high sputtering power and N2 gas flow. Low intensive peak was observed at gas mixer ratio of 14:6. N2 flow and sputtering power...

An experimental investigation was conducted to examine the effects of fuel-air ratio, fuel additives, fuel composition and inlet air temperature on particle sizes in a gas turbine combustor and augmentor tube. Equipment improvements led to validation of two optical sizing techniques, three-wavelength light transmittance and three-angle forward light scattering. Generally, data obtained agreed well with results of earlier investigations. Particle size variations within the combustor due to...

An experimental investigation was conducted to examine the effects of fuel-air ratios, fuel composition and smoke-suppressant fuel additives on the sooting characteristics of a T-63 combustor. Multiple wavelength light transmission and two-angle light scattering measurements were used to measure the mean soot diameter. Ferrocene, 12% Cerium Hex-Cem and USLAD 2055 were found effective in reducing exhaust gas opacity. Initial results were conflicting on the cause for the reduced opacity.
