For over 100 years the land that today is Dix Park was part of the Spring Hill plantation owned by the Hunter family. Spring Hill House was built by enslaved African Americans around 1818. Recent research by city historians has uncovered a remarkable family tree linking living decedents to their ancestors who were enslaved at Spring Hill.
