do you ever sit on underground trains for long periods as part of your daily routine? we do do you ever sit thinking about what that guy opposite with the faded shirt and the tattoo just visible under the cuff of his right sleeve is listening to on those headphones so loud but so quiet that you can just detect the tiny scratching of someone elses music on the edge of your sphere of hearing? perhaps he's got it turned right up - blocking out the world remembering the night before or maybe he's...

Originally hailing from British Columbia's Okanagan Valley, SIX TIMES CRUEL played their first show on July 1, 1996 in front of 5,000 people. They had been a band for six full days and the performance earned them second place in a local talent search and $1500. The band maintained a steady diet of write, record, play, replace bass player, and repeat until July 2000 when they decided it was time to relocate to Vancouver. Once arriving on the coast, however, the prospect of replacing bassist #7,...

In 1917, the US Emergency Fleet Corporation (EFC) contracted for 703 wooden cargo steamships to supplement its budding fleet of steel cargo ships. This created great controversy; at the time, wood was already obsolete for large ship building, and even reciprocating steam engines were considered old-fashioned. The main type of wooden ship followed the Theodore "Ferris" design (USSB design #1001), a 270' long, coal-fired, "three-island" ship of 3,500 deadweight tons. 1:350...

Single and 20mm Oerlikon mounts for Italian Regia Marina ships. After 1941 the Italians started fitting Oerlikon cannon in preference to the Bredas, which had some vibration issues. These are a 1/300 single and twin mount based on a period photo of a 20mm Oerlikon mount on a MAS boat. It's a quick remix of a single gun someone else did that was part of a pack, with the tops of the gun mounts trimmed, and in one case the guns doubled. At 1/300 scale it should look pretty good.

I remixed the original to make a bit of an S-38 version. I have added a few extra details here and there. These are likely only suitable for SLA printing. Also added a hull to have them at speed and out of the water a bit as they would have been. These are cobbled together from pics of model kits etc and are in no way historically accurate.

A modification of Grugnog's excellent 1/300 Vosper MTB, this model represents the Romanian 70' class, of which Viscolul was the lead vessel. It is a basic model and shows the boat with its maximum load of depth charges (I may add a variant with a reduced load later)

** I have now added options to print the torpedoes separately. I recommend this. When I printed 6 boats with torpedoes included as a test, 2 of them suffered support failure on the torpedoes. ** The Motoscafo armato silurante (MAS) 500 series torpedo boat is my first go at an Italian boat from WWII. The MAS 500 series was made in large numbers by Italy in WW2. They were used with success against Soviet forces in the Black Sea and, of course, against the Western Allies in the Mediterranean....

The Marinefährprahm, commonly known as a Flak Lighter, was the largest landing craft fielded by the German Navy during WWII. Although originally developed for the invasion of Britain, these boats served in a variety of roles, with a variety of weapons. They found use as gunboats, transports, mine layers and escorts. Variants were also built by Italy, initially for the proposed invasion of Malta. Again this did not take place and the boats were used for other duties. I have two variants here,...

The Daihatsu class landing craft was a highly successful landing craft design used by the Japanese during WWII. It could carry a single light tank, 70 men or 10 tons of cargo. Judging from photos from the period, the majority of these craft did not mount fixed weaponry (at least when the photos were being taken). They seem to have been defended by a pair of LMGs issued to the crew, though some mounted between 1 and 3 25mm cannons. ** This is the first time I have included human figures in my...

By late 1943 the war in the Pacific was going badly for Imperial Japan. Anticipating an attack on Japan itself, the Japanese undertook preparation for a number of desperation defences. One of them was the Shinyo ("Sea Quake") class of suicide explosive boats. The Shinyo were small, wooden, one man boats packing a 270kg charge in the bow. This was triggered either manually, or by an impact trigger (the wooden assembly protruding from the bow is part of this trigger). They were most...

The Siebel Ferry was originally designed for Operation Sealion, the proposed amphibious invasion of Britain. It was a rush job, and was actually constructed from two heavy bridging pontoons connected by steel girders. Although the operation they were designed for never took place, Siebel Ferries went on to fulfill a number of roles throughout the war. They were used as transports, flak ships, gunboats, convoy escorts and minelayers. This model is of an SF-40 Siebel Ferry with a light flak load...

This one is just a modification of my previous Siebel Ferry. This particular version is outfitted as a transport, or possibly for carrying troops for an amphibious invasion - both rather useful for wargames. I have not included any vehicles to put on the deck. For that I suggest using one of the many excellent STLs available elsewhere on thingiverse. In particular I recommend: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3553160

** Note: This is a VERY small boat at 1/300 scale - under 2cm in length. The real thing was only about 5.5 meters long. It's basically a motorboat with a bomb in it. ** The MTM Explosive Boat is sometimes called a "suicide boat", although the term is not completely accurate. The MTM was designed to be carried by a larger ship, then dropped off near to its target. Its single operator would then arm its 330 kg explosive charge and head towards a large enemy ship - preferably one lying...

The MTSM (Motoscafo da Turismo Silurante Modificato) was an extremely small Italian torpedo boat during WWII. Like the Explosive Boat, it was designed to be ferried to the target area by a larger vessel. Basically a motorboat with a single torpedo, they were unusual for WWII boats in that they used a stern launched torpedo setup - meaning that they had to turn sharply after launching the torpedo (there were other stern launchers in the war, but they were in the minority). For more information...

This is a Series II version of the MS Boat I previously published. You can find that here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3704554 The second production series of the Italian MS Boat saw a heavier armament in the shape of two extra torpedoes carried at the rear, bringing the total to four (two 450mm torpedoes and two 533mm torpedoes). Additionally, the native Breda 20mm cannon at the rear was often replaced by an imported German quad 20mm flak mount. This naturally came at the cost of extra...

Here is an R-41 variant of the German Raumboot in 1/300 for Cruel Seas. While the S Boats had all the glory, the R Boats were in many ways the backbone of the Kriegsmarine's coastal forces. Originally designed as minesweepers, they were used in every theatre as convoy escorts, patrol boats, air-sea rescue boats and minelayers. As usual, this was made for an SLA printer and may need modification to work with anything else. I usually print my guns separately, so I've included files for this...
