In the fall of 2002, bassist Pete McFerrin and drummer James Bowman teamed up to start an "evil jam band." After dabbling with a guitar/alto sax frontline and a power trio configuration, they decided to pursue a jazzier direction and recruited ace baritone saxophonist Seth Sarelson and virtuoso keyboardist Brian Kwoba to the fold.
